APA style is used for professional writing in nursing and health care. As a professional, it is important to be able to clearly communicate your research or professional writing in an accurately formatted paper using the most current APA style. The purpose of this assignment is to write a 500-750 word paper focusing on the proper application of APA style.
Data-based decision-making allows healthcare systems to generate real-time insights and predictions to optimize their performance. They can test the success of different strategies and make informed decisions for sustainable evidence-based healthcare provision and growth (Katkade et al., 2018). Clients require such information to choose healthy behaviors, demand effective policies and services, and hold health institutions and governments accountable for allocating and using resources for health.
The essay summary seeks topropose strategies for meeting the data needs of Vila Health. While Vila Health operating in a community need to elucidate to stakeholders the type of clients it serves, and the results of its treatments, the usage of data in making such decisions is critical.
Types of Internal Data Available within a Health Care System
Internal data is information, statistics, and trends that healthcare organizations discover through their operations. It includes facts and figures that they pull from internal databases, software, customers, and reports (Mehta & Pandit, 2018). The data include information systems such as a radiology information system, a cancer registry, or the patient financial system. The internal data can be classified as electronic health records, administrative, claims, patient and disease registries, health surveys, and clinical trials.

Scholarly Resources: Scholarly resources are written with a focus on a specific subject discipline and usually written by an expert in the same subject field. Scholarly resources are written for an academic audience.
Examples of Scholarly Resources include: Academic journals, books written by experts in a field, and formally published encyclopedias and dictionaries.
Peer-Reviewed Journals: Peer-reviewed journals are evaluated prior to publication by experts in the journal’s subject discipline. This process ensures that the articles published within the journal are academically rigorous and meet the required expectations of an article in that subject discipline.
Empirical Journal Article: This type of scholarly resource is a subset of scholarly articles that reports the original finding of an observational or experimental research study. Common aspects found within an empirical article include: literature review, methodology, results, and discussion.

Writing is an interesting art through which wordsmiths utilize their skills to deliver meaningful content to the audience. Academic writing, in particular, is unique since it demands strict adherence to predetermined standards to enhance a piece’s appeal to a professional audience. My journey as a writer has been quite fulfilling, especially when I reflect on the knowledge I have gained so far in matters pertaining to paper formatting and content presentation.
In 1929, a group of business managers, anthropologists, and psychologists collaborated to form the American Psychological Association (APA) standards of writing to guide professionals in various domains including psychology, neuroscience, sociology, linguistics, human geography, political science, economics, and cognitive science.
It is important to have a rough idea of the disciplines of writing in which the APA style is applicable to avoid employing it in unwarranted pieces. Other notable styles of writing include Chicago, MLA, OSCOLA, and Harvard. The limiting scope of the present piece only allows its author to focus on the APA Style of writing.
First and foremost, it must be established that the official criteria for the recent version of the APA style is accessible from the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition. The third chapter of this manual offers its readers some guidelines on how to communicate effectively through clear and concise writing.
Clarity and conciseness are largely dependent on the organization of the paper, writing style, bias, and grammar usage. Each of these dynamics has a crucial role in creating a sense of connection between the writer and his/her audience. The sixth chapter ‘Crediting Sources’ provides further guidance on how citations and references can be leveraged to enhance both the credibility and relevance of a piece (APA, 2010).
This section acknowledges the challenge often faced by writers as they engage in personal communication: this kind of communication involves the use of private content, which can only be included in the in-text citations, but not the reference list.
The two main types of communications in academic writing include personal and interpersonal, depending on the reader’s ability to retrieve the primary data: the first includes pieces of information that cannot be retrieved by the reader while the latter are retrievable. Personal communications include live speeches, personal interviews, emails, online chats, text messages, unrecorded classroom lectures, letters, non-archived discussion group messages/bulletins, and memos (Appelbaum, et al., 2018).
As highlighted earlier, personal communications cannot be included in the reference list, so it is important to incorporate sufficient details inside the text. For example, email messages received from John Doe on September 8, 2020 will be cited as either (D. John, email, September 8, 2020) or D. John (email, September 8, 2020). Noteworthy is the fact that the first is written in a parenthetical manner while the latter assumes a narrative structure, yet both are correct.
As stated, clarity and conciseness are primary quality indicators in the APA style of writing. For a writer to experience proficiency in this factor, he/she should be willing to utilize the APA level of headings (APA, 2010). According to the sixth edition edicts, APA pieces ought to abide to the five-level heading protocol.
First-Level Heading. Typically, first-level headings should be centered, boldface, with both uppercase and lowercase words. The headings “Introduction” and “Effective Communication” are good examples of first-level header. Noteworthy is how they have been applied to shape the discussion.
Second-Level Heading. On the other hand, the second-level heading follows the same technique save for the fact that it is flushed left. The present subsection “Levels of Heading” offers a clear illustration of how this level of heading can be applied in an article to advance the discussion.
Third-Level Heading. The third-level heading in APA is usually used as further advancement of the argument summarized in the second-level heading. The preceding parts have presented clear illustrations of how the first two levels of heading are utilized in the writing process (APA, 2010). At this point, the reader is urged to reflect on how this third-level of heading is used to advance the information summarized in the second-level heading titled “Levels of Heading”.
Fourth Level Heading. Like the third-level heading, this level is also indented and bolded. However, fourth level headings are written in the sentence form, with a period at the end. When taken into perspective, this heading would be written as Fourth level heading (APA, 2010). Unfortunately, this piece has not utilized this level of heading as there lacks a need for its usage.
Fifth-Level Heading. This level of heading also follows the same format as the fourth-level heading, but it is not written in bold. In such a case, this heading would be written as Fifth level heading. Like the other headings, this one has to contain information that advances the previous word.
The internet is a wide network of information presented in a broad range of formats including websites, pdfs, GIFs, video, and audio formats among others. In an attempt to enhance the accessibility of academic information in this huge network, researchers utilize a digital object identifier (DOI) (APA, 2010). A DOI incorporates a string of letters, symbols, and numbers to allow web crawlers to locate a document or article, then link it to a particular website portal. Most DOIs use the following format http://doi.org/10.0000/0000. This link is usually inserted in the reference, just after including the publication.
As a researcher, my primary goal is to deliver written content to the desired audience. Such a progressive move cannot be attained without the use of strategic tools such as a DOI. Digital object identifiers allow a researcher to share his/her work via a short link: the audience can also partake in this process by sharing the link (Appelbaum, et al., 2018). This technique makes it easy for information to be disseminated across the internet easily compared to when the audience is only given the option of downloading a piece.
Jerry Falwell is an online library that applies the ‘information fence’ technique to prevent visitors from accessing data unless they have an active membership. For members, this site offers a broad range of resources including an academic database (for e-books, journals, and other media), interlibrary loan, and access to academic events and workshops.
One of the most interesting resource in this digital library is research assistance and student interactions. The research assistance guides site visitors on how he/she can utilize keywords to access the desired articles and research reports.
At this point, it is fair to assert that academic writing is a unique skill that demands efficacy, especially in matters pertaining to academic style and standards. The APA style of writing offers the most appropriate set of rules that ought to be followed by a writer in order to deliver a piece that demonstrates conciseness, clarity, quality, credibility, and relevance.

Nurse Leader
(NL)
Family Nurse Practitioner(FNP)
Observations (Similarities/Differences)EthicsEthics in nursing leadership involves understanding ethical decision-making, accountability, and responsibility. Ethical leadership requires promoting patient-centered care, maintaining confidentiality, respecting diversity, and promoting social justice (Haddad & Geiger, 2022).Ethics is important for Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialty because FNPs work closely with patients and their families to provide care throughout their lifespan. FNPs provide evidence-based, culturally sensitive patient-centered care that respects patients’ autonomy, confidentiality, and informed consent. FNPs make ethical decisions and provide quality care based on ethical principles such as beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and respect for persons (Haddad & Geiger, 2022).Both nursing leadership and family nurse practitioners are responsible for incorporating ethical considerations into their patient-centered care practices while respecting patient autonomy, privacy, and informed consent. However, nurse leaders focus on healthcare management and leadership aspects and make decisions affecting larger patient groups or the healthcare system. In contrast, family nurse practitioners prioritize direct patient care and focus on individual patients.EducationNurse Leader specialty requires a Master’s or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, clinical rotations, leadership, healthcare administration, and healthcare policy coursework. Graduates must pass a certification exam and maintain licensure. NLs are qualified to lead healthcare teams due to their advanced education and training (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2020).
To become a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), an individual must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, be a licensed registered nurse (RN), and complete a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, which includes courses in advanced pharmacology, pathophysiology, health assessment, and diagnostic reasoning, as well as clinical practicum hours. Upon completing the MSN program, passing the national certification exam is required to obtain a license as an FNP. Continuing education requirements exist for FNP licensure renewal, and FNPs must stay current with the latest research and clinical practices (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2020).The Nurse Leader and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialties require advanced education and training in pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, and clinical rotations and require passing a certification exam and maintaining licensure. However, the NL specialty also includes coursework in leadership, healthcare administration, and healthcare policy, and are specifically qualified to lead healthcare teams. FNPs must have a BSN degree and RN licensure before completing an MSN. They must stay current with the latest research and clinical practices through continuing education requirements for licensure renewal.
LeadershipLeadership in healthcare organizations is crucial for the success and effective functioning of any healthcare system. It is particularly important for Nurse Leaders who have a vital role in patient care and treatment. NLs must possess strong leadership qualities, such as effective communication, collaboration, decision-making, and critical thinking, to provide high-quality healthcare services to patients. They must also clearly understand the healthcare system, including policies, regulations, and ethical standards (Wood, 2021).Effective leadership skills are essential for Family Nurse Practitioners FNPs to provide comprehensive primary care to patients and coordinate their care with other healthcare professionals. FNP leaders must communicate effectively, make strategic decisions, foster a positive work environment, and stay up-to-date with the latest medical advances and research. Additionally, they should advocate for their patients, work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, and manage their teams to ensure high-quality patient care (Wood, 2021).Nurse Leaders and Family Nurse Practitioner leaders require strong leadership qualities to provide patients with high-quality healthcare services. Nurse Leaders are responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of the healthcare system. In contrast, FNP leaders focus on providing comprehensive primary care to patients and coordinating their care with other healthcare professionals.
Public HealthPublic health and the Nurse Leader specialty are connected as they focus on promoting health and preventing disease. Public health uses strategies such as health education and policy development to improve populations’ health, while NL provides primary care services and manages healthcare teams. NL can use its expertise to develop and implement public health programs, address health disparities, conduct research, and collaborate with public health professionals and community organizations to improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.Public Health and Family Nurse Practitioners are interconnected in promoting and maintaining the health of individuals, families, and communities. Public Health aims to prevent disease and illness at the population level, while FNPs provide primary care services and collaborate with public health professionals to address public health concerns. Integrating these practices is crucial for addressing complex health challenges and ensuring comprehensive, coordinated, patient-centered care.
Nurse Leaders and Family Nurse Practitioners have a role in promoting public health by addressing health disparities, conducting research, collaborating with public health professionals and community organizations, and providing primary care services. However, Nurse Leaders have a broader scope of practice, including developing and implementing public health programs, while FNPs provide more direct patient care services.
Health Care AdministrationHealth care administration and nurse leadership are closely linked as they both work towards providing quality patient care. Healthcare administration focuses on managing the overall operations of healthcare facilities, while nurse leaders manage and lead nursing staff to provide safe and effective patient care. Effective collaboration between the two is crucial in achieving high-quality patient care, managing costs, and ensuring the smooth functioning of healthcare facilities. Together, they can create a patient-centered and efficient healthcare system.Health Care Administration and Family Nurse Practitioners are linked as healthcare administration involves managing and coordinating healthcare services, while FNPs provide primary care services. Healthcare administrators work with FNPs to manage resources and ensure that healthcare policies are followed. In contrast, FNPs work with healthcare administrators to make healthcare systems efficient, effective, and patient-centered. Together, they aim to improve the quality of care provided, reduce healthcare costs, and promote healthy communities.
The similarities between nurse leaders and family health specialty to healthcare administration include their focus on providing quality patient care, collaborating with healthcare administrators, and improving healthcare systems. The differences lie in their specific roles, with nurse leaders focusing on managing nursing staff and family nurse practitioners providing primary care services.
InformaticsInformatics plays a crucial role in the nursing leadership specialty by providing the necessary tools and technologies for efficient and effective management of healthcare data, resources, and processes to improve patient outcomes and enhance quality-of-care delivery (Garcia-Dia, 2021).
An analysis of Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) reveals that they must understand nursing informatics to provide secure, high-quality healthcare to families and communities. Furthermore, utilizing informatics allows FNPs to investigate patterns in health problems affecting families and implement effective interventions. Both nurse leaders and family nurse practitioners must understand nursing informatics to provide high-quality healthcare and implement effective interventions. However, nurse leaders also rely on informatics to efficiently

Description:
Research health care legislation that is being considered in your state. What impact might this legislation have on your future practice? What impact does it have on the collective practice of nurses in your state? How do you envision yourself potentially becoming involved in political advocacy for the profession in your future practice?
In the United States, the advanced practice registered nurse, or APRN, position has steadily grown in importance. This is due to the enormous role they play in bridging the gap between physicians and the general public. It is a well-known fact that the number of practicing physicians is nearly inversely proportional to the population they are supposed to serve NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. A rigorous accredited postgraduate course in their specialty is required to become an advanced practice nurse.
As the entry level to practice, this postgraduate degree is currently recommended to be a PhD. Following completion of these educational requirements, the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), for example, must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC) (ANCC, N.D.) and obtain state licensure to practice. Given that many socioeconomically disadvantaged communities cannot afford the expensive health services provided by the country’s physicians, the role of APRNs has grown in importance.
What these populations require is affordable healthcare delivered to them in a convenient location. This is primary health care (PHC), and the APRNs are the frontline clinicians who will champion it in the future. This paper will look at the future roles and scope of the nurse practitioner (in this case a PMHNP), the regulatory framework governing their practice, accreditation and credentialing, nursing professional organizations they can join, and one controversial issue related to PMHNP practice NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper.
At present, the role of the nurse practitioner and its scope are very much a factor of the state legislation and regulations that govern nurse practitioner practice. In states that guarantee full autonomy of practice (full practice authority or FPA), the PMHNP evaluates mentally ill patients, diagnoses, orders investigations and interprets them independently before ordering appropriate treatment and making follow up (Maryville University, 2019). This is the full scope of the role that the PMHNP will be practicing in the future, because the movement to have universal full practice authority across states is unstoppable. Regulation of practice of PMHNPs and by extension all other APRNs is done through state legislation.
Different states have different regulatory structures for APRNs (AANP, 2018). Across the fifty states, there are those whose regulatory structure is that of full practice authority. However, other states still have a regulatory structure of either reduced practice or restricted practice (AANP, 2018) NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. These last two regulatory structures are restrictive and prohibitive to the nurse practitioner, preventing them from exercising their knowledge and training to the full extent of their abilities. As stated above, full practice authority regulatory structure permits the nurse practitioner to practice without any supervision or hindrance.
Reduced practice, on the other hand, requires that the nurse practitioner enters into a collaborative agreement with a practicing physician so that they can effectively practice under them. Lastly, the worst regulatory framework is the restricted practice arrangement. In the states with this kind of APRN regulation, the nurse practitioner is only allowed to do a few things which also have to be done under the supervision of a physician (AANP, 2018).
There are a total of 23 states that have a full practice authority regulatory structure as at 2017. These include Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Hawaii, Washington D.C., New Mexico, and so on. The remaining are either reduced or restricted practice NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. Reduced practice states for APRNs include Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Utah, Louisiana, and so on. Lastly are the worst states to practice in as APRNs. These have licensure laws that only allow restricted practice which give the APRN very little room to flourish. These states include Florida, Texas, Michigan, Georgia, and California, amongst others (Maryville University, 2019; AANP, 2018).
The future of the PMHNP and other APRNs however looks bright and their traditional role as seen above is definitely set to expand. This is because there is a shortage of physicians as they move to the super specialties leaving disciplines like family medicine with severe shortages of manpower. APRNs are the cadre that will fill this vacancy (Maryville University, 2019) NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. After education and training the PMHNP is expected to get certification before applying for a practicing licence from the state in which they intend to practice.
In the case of the PMHNP, the agency tasked with this certification is the American Nurses Credentialing Centre or ANCC (ANCC, n.d.). All that the graduated nurse practitioner needs to do is to sit for a competency examination that tests for clinical acumen, knowledge, and skills. After passing the examination and the board certification (BC) is awarded, the official title of the nurse practitioner changes to PMHNP-BC (ANCC, n.d.). The certification lasts for five years, after which it needs to be renewed.
On the matter of accreditation, it is the particular course that the PMHNP does at the university that needs to be accredited. Accreditation of courses and institutions takes place both at the regional level and the national level (EDsmart, n.d.) NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. There is preference, however, for the regional accreditation of courses as it is easy to transfer credits to another institution this way.
Some of the regional accreditation bodies include the Higher Learning Commission (which is recognized by the US Department of Education) and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. In summary, the process therefore starts with enrolling in a duly accredited postgraduate course. After completion of the course, the nurse practitioner applies for board certification and sits for the competency examination. If successful, they then apply for a practice license as per the state’s licensure laws. The licence that they will then get will depend on the state as discussed above and will be for full practice autonomy, a reduced practice, or a restricted practice.
Professional organizations are an important component for the advance practice nurse professional. This is especially true considering the challenges with the disparate regulatory structures seen above. Policies and their formulation by their very nature are political processes. Political processes require masses and one voice, if anything is to change NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. This is the reason why PMHNPs must come together in professional bodies so that they can champion their professional c
auses. Therefore, professional organizations provide a platform and forum on which psychiatric-mental health nurses can stand and articulate their issues (Catallo et al., 2014). These issues include lobbying state legislators for policy changes towards the granting of full practice authority in the states that still do not have it. Professional bodies also help in the exchanging of professional ideas for better and improved practice.
Three of the most prominent professional organizations for the PMHNP are the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN), and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). The ISPN builds capacity by way of mentorship and sharing of ideas, while at the same time helping with sharing professional ideas. The APNA fosters knowledge dissemination and professional support for its members (Adams &Black, 2016).
For instance, by the year 2016 it had come up with a short online course to help its members seal some identified knowledge gaps. The program was titled American Psychiatric Nurses Association Transitions in Practice (ATP) (Adams & Black, 2016) NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) on its part provides professional support and encouragement by conferring Fellowship status to those members that have done something remarkable to the profession. The Fellowship status is only by nomination. Thus those who have received this prestigious recognition carry the title of Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) (Rossiter et al., 2017).
The most important controversial issue for a PMHNP at the moment is the matter of evidence-based practice. It is only psychiatry and mental health that is lacking behind in implementation of evidence-based practice in all of medicine NUR 513 Benchmark Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper. This is because of long-held traditions that have proved hard to drop completely (Alzayyat, 2014)
Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines. Are there any differences in the ethical guidelines that govern these roles? What situations might require one role to respond differently, depending on the ethical guidelines?
Ethics refers to understanding the moral rules and the system they are made of such as the nature, purposes, and justification (Barker & DeNisco, 2016). Ethical issue is one of the dilemmas faced by nurses today, even advance practice registered nurses and it is important to make the establish good ethical nursing practice which is best for the patient’s outcome.
Psychiatric clinical nurse specialists (CNS) provide nursing care to patients suffering from psychiatric disorders using best practices and evidence-based care to achieve the best possible outcomes (American Nurses Association, 2020). The care of patients in this field may be difficult and overwhelming due to the diagnosis of mental illness.
To practice ethically and prevent bias, patience and empathy must be employed. it is important for a CNS to recognize their own feelings when dealing with difficult patients and not allow emotions to prevent them from providing effective patient care. The CNS should try to remain neutral and continue to provide the best care for the patient (Laskowski, 2001).
Registered Nurses have numerous options within various types of Masters Programs. Advanced Nursing Practice Roles differ across specialties. I’ve chosen to contrast two types of APN positions: Nurse Educator and Nurse Practitioner (Liaison International , 2022).
The Nurse Educator plays an important role in both college instruction and hospital bedside guidance. When teaching and guiding nursing students, new graduates, and experienced nurses, it is critical to strike a balance (American Nurses Association, 2022). Ethical considerations may include offering constructive communication techniques for all aspects of learning styles, maintaining confidentiality and anonymity, and recognizing the potential for harm as soon as possible so that the issue can be revised and improved.
The nurse educator is a valuable resource in all areas of nursing, and performing this role compassionately and confidently has a direct impact on healthy growth and success at all levels of nursing practice (DeNisco & Barker, 2019).
Nurse Practitioners (NP) provide primary, acute, and specialty health care to patients of all ages by assessing, diagnosing, and treating illnesses and injuries (APRN, 2020). NPs face ethical challenges when dealing with difficult patients and family members.
Patients’ medical issues can cause psychological or emotional problems, which can lead to hopelessness and behavioral problems. Regardless of the patient’s behavioral issues, NPs are still responsible for meeting the patient’s needs by adhering to ethical standards in their profession (Barker & DeNisco, 2016).
At GCU we hold Christian Values as a component of our educational foundation. Should this also be a factor in how students act and influence their decisions towards academic integrity? Answers are voluntary but do count towards one of your three substantive posts for the week if you meet the 200-word minimum requirement.
I think spiritual values do influence the decision to maintain academic integrity because otherwise, it would be hypocrisy. If one claims to be a spiritual being but cheats their way through life, then the question becomes who do we actually think we’re fooling? It is necessary to stay true to oneself and to choose the proper thing to do even when no one’s looking, to me, that’s the true definition of integrity.
I also believe one must constantly work at or renew their spiritual beliefs because we’re all human without perfection so, at times will’s get weak and we envision success by taking the easier way out such as cheating on a test or taking credit where it isn’t due by putting our names on others’ work, committing infractions known to us as plagiarism but causing greater damage to the soul.
We must remember every good thing worth having requires putting in the work required to achieve those goals. The constant struggle within to always do the right thing is understandable but, if we nourish the positivity more than we nourish the negativity, making the appropriate decisions become second nature and the struggle to make the desirable choices are lessened.
It’s a greater sense of appreciation to know the goals achieved were achieved honestly and through hard work. When one puts in honest work, the process is respected!
Thank you for your response.
This brings to mind King James Bible/New Living Translation 2005, Luke 8:17; For all that is secret will eventually turn to light. I was in Nursing school and happen to be tutoring a nursing student that was a class or two behind me. The student was prepared to take her med-surgical exam; we had reviewed the pathophysiology so that she would be able to look at, for example, be given a scenario regarding a patient’s lab values and know if the patient was in metabolic acidosis. We reviewed the ability to think critically.
Prior to her taking the test we, both felt confident that she would pass. Day later she called and asked to come over and when she arrived, she was distraught. I was dumb founded; she explained that she had taken the exam, but it did not go very well because she decided to cheat. A couple of her classmates reassured her that they had the answers to the exam; She did not even read the exam to use anything that we had reviewed as far a critically thinking and using pathophysiology, lab values, and so on to arrive at the answers.
I was upset that she had taken up hours and days of my time to prepare for an exam and she just totally threw everything out the window and just put down answers. The class prior to hers had aced the exam, but the instructor and the Director of the Nursing department reviewed the class trends and knew that the class prior to her class should not have scored that many A’s.
Therefore, the test was changed and the test that my friend took was different from the one the prior class had taken. On top of that she had to speak with the Director of the Nursing department and was expelled from the program. She needed to at least pass with a C to remain in the program. The class prior had students that were also expelled as well as the students that were in her class.
I only knew about this as she confided in me regarding the situation; otherwise, the was emphasis in my class to make sure that all the concepts were understood; if not ask questions during/after lecture and because in clinical we were taking care of patients and need to know why we were administering some as simple as a vitamin E and the side effects. In my practice I have been conscientious regarding patient care. In the Neonatal Intensive Care everything we gave during the time I worked in the unit was doubled checked. If it did not fit into a 1cc syringe it was triple checked.

Identify at least three regulato1y bodies or industry regulations that specify certification, licensure requirements, or scope of practice for your specialty. Discuss the way these bodies or regulations influence the educational requirements and experiences for your specialty. Advanced practice registered nurses must incorporate the APRN consensus model in their response.
Compare two different advanced registered nurse roles with regard to ethical guidelines. Are there any differences in the ethical guidelines that govern these roles? What situations might require one role to respond differently, depending on tl1e e tliical guidelines?
Objectives:
Identify at least two regulatory bodies or industry regulations that specify certification, licensure requirements, or scope of practice for your specialty. Discuss the way these bodies or regulations influence the educational requirements and experiences for your specialty. Advanced practice registered nurses must incorporate the APRN consensus model in their response.
In your response to peers, discuss a specific guideline or change imposed by a regulating body or industry regulation and explain the how this affects your daily practice. Cite at least one source to support your response.
The federal government does play a role in the regulation process for APRNs in terms of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, but much of the regulatory responsibility has been shifted to the states (DeNisco & Baker, 2016). In general licensing and regulations are done on a state level, upheld by the Boards of Nursing (BONs) which vary from state to state (DeNisco & Baker, 2016).
The BONs act as decision making bodies that define the nursing scope of practice, educational requirements, licensure, licensure requirements, certifications, and deliver disciplinary action (DeNisco & Baker, 2016). The Nurse Practice Acts (NPAs) are the defined state laws that outline the scope of practice for nurses and nursing specialties within each state that the BON enforces (DeNisco & Baker, 2016).
In the future I plan on pursing a career in Nursing Informatics. Informatics is a nontraditional advanced practice role so some of the certifications and licensure are not at regulated as the four traditional APRN roles. According to the Consensus Model for APRN regulation, informatics is not considered direct patient care and therefore does not require regulatory acknowledgement beyond a Registered Nursing license (APRN Consensus Work Group & National Council of State Boards of Nursing APRN Advisory Committee, 2008).
There is an ANCC Informatics Nursing board certification that can be obtain. The eligibility to be certified requires active RN licensure from the BON, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a minimum of two years of practice as an RN, 30 hours of continuing education in Informatics withing 3 years, and you must meet practice hour requirements (ANCC, 2021). In my case, my practice hour requirements will be fulfilled by completing this graduate level program.
The regulatory bodies that work together to specify certification, licensure requirements, and scope of practice for Public health nursing include, the National Council of State Board of Nursing (NCSBN). The American Nurses Association (ANA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the National Board of Public health examiners (NBPHE) (American Association of College of Nursing, 2021). In many cases, the major and legal requirement for Public health nursing practice is the registered nurse (RN) licensing.
Nurses with baccalaureate degree who are interested in receiving Advanced degree such as master’s degree or higher in public health nursing can seek additional voluntary certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to earn Advanced Public Health Nursing Board certified (PHN-BC) and the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE). Hence, they are awarded a Certified Public Health (CPH) certificate after the certification examination (Association of Public Health Nurses, 2019)
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a non-profit organization that ensures licensed nurses provide competent care across the country. They accomplish this by ensuring that new nurses enter the workforce have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide safe patient care (National Council of State Board of Nursing, 2019). They created the NCLEX examination for nursing licensure.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) empowers nurses to use their full scope of practice for the benefit of public health. The ANA facilitates the review and revision of the scope and practice standards of public health nursing to ensure that nursing responsibilities evolve at the same rate as public health demands (American Nurses Association, 2021). In addition, the ANA supports policy, advocacy, and education to build on individual nurse contributions to public health in areas such as immunization, infection control, environmental health, and opioid crisis response (American Nurses Association, 2021).

Nursing practitioners play a critical role in the provision of healthcare in a safe, secure and confidential manner. While they continue to dispense their duties, nurses have to contend with their worldviews on religion, culture, and even spiritual elements that influence their perception and opinion of the practice. Worldview is a set of assumptions, beliefs, and practices that shapes how one perceives the dynamics in any context. Worldview provides nursing practitioners with an ontological foundation on which they base their beliefs. This essay describes my worldview, my nursing philosophy, and the nursing theory that I use to help me in providing health solutions to my patients.
My worldview is largely a factor of my beliefs, cultural practices, religion, assumptions, and spiritual elements. As a nurse, I am aware that these elements can impact the care that I deliver to patients. My religious beliefs and cultural background may impact how I view other people who do not subscribe to the same beliefs. My culture, beliefs, traditions, and religion define how I relate with patients and how these elements distinctly or collectively shape my experience. In the same way, patients have their own sets of beliefs and values based on their cultures that they use to give meaning to their experiences as patients (Thorne, 2020). My worldview encourages me to have a deep understanding of the mindset and mentality of the patients that I treat.
Concerning my nursing philosophy, I have created a statement that clearly outlines the values, beliefs, motivation, and ethics that I observe in dispensing my duties. The statement helps me to focus on the choices that I make and reminds me of the need to observe high ethical standards when attending to patients as espoused by Green (2018). The statement makes me continually ask important questions such as what nursing means to me, the reason for pursuing the nursing profession, my personal beliefs that impact nursing, the skills that are most critical to me in my profession, and what impact my profession has on my community and society. These questions helps me operate in a manner that goes beyond simply adhering to the rules and the laws that govern the nursing practice.
My nursing philosophy is to provide holistic care to my patients and the community. In my view, nursing is about a person and understanding their needs at all levels physically, psychologically, and emotionally (Hoeck & Delmar, 2017). I endeavor to use my skills and technology to provide nursing solutions using evidence-based methods. I use my clinical skills, knowledge, and judgment to empower patients and communities to actively participate in actions and activities designed to improve their health. As a nurse, it is my responsibility and utmost wish to see people transforming their lives by actively participating in matters that bring good health to them. Most importantly, I ensure that patients get the best quality care when in my hands.
While many theories are beneficial to nurses, every nurse identifies with only specific models that work best for them considering their objectives and nursing philosophies. For me, I choose Jean Watson’s Caring theory as my nursing theory. I choose this theory because it offers the best results for patients-care, love, empathy, and quality services. At the same time, this theory appeals to my nursing philosophies. The Jean Watson’s Caring nursing theory has numerous critical advantages to me as a nurse and my patients. For patients, this nursing theory emphasizes quality care, empowerment, creating awareness, cooperation with patients, and meeting the needs of patients (Steyl, 2019). On my side, the Jean Watson’s Caring Theory works well with my nursing philosophy as far as providing a high quality of healing is concerned. Characterizing this theory are such noble concepts as love, kindness, empathy, and positive relationships with patients, elements I endeavor to espouse. Further, the theory adopts a humanistic approach in dealing with patients and supports a comprehensive worldview that enhances the meaning and understanding of knowledge, knowing, doing, and being. This theory helps me to turn my worldviews into positive synergies that are valuable to my patients/customers.
Four months ago I encountered a patient of Hispanic origin who refused to be treated citing his religious background. The patient was very angry at his relatives for presenting him to the hospital for treatment. When I talked to him, he said that he belongs to a religious group that outlaws getting treated in a hospital. He said that getting treated at a hospital violates his belief and faith in God as the only healer. The patient was wailing and adamant that he cannot accept being treated at any hospital. He asked his relatives to take him back home so that he can get an alternative form of treatment. I approached the patient and managed to calm him down by explaining to him that like him, I believe in God as the healer. The patient accepted treatment on the condition that he must be allowed to worship/pray before commencing his medication. This example shows how I used my nursing worldview in solving a case successfully.
My nursing worldview helps me to understand my purpose and role in healthcare and as a healthcare professional. For the future, the nursing philosophies and worldview will help me to acquire further knowledge through education, practice, and research (Cook, & Peden, 2020). These elements set out a clear foundation of nursing practice by describing what nurses should do to enhance their service delivery. Additionally, the nursing theory helps me to understand how to deal with people from different backgrounds. Worldview provides nursing practitioners with an ontological foundation that shapes their beliefs and practices, including defining their relationship with others. Most importantly, the nursing theory helps me to effectively evaluate patients and create proper treatment plans based on their physical, emotional, and psychological situations.
Every nurse is guided by a nursing philosophy that shapes their service delivery to patients. Cultural beliefs, traditions, religion, and spirituality are examples of worldview elements that impact nursing practice. It is the responsibility of all nurses to ensure that their worldview does not negatively impact their practice. Critically, my nursing worldview helps me to understand my purpose and role in healthcare. For the future, the nursing philosophies and worldview will help me to acquire further knowledge through education, practice, and research. By leveraging the different facets of nursing theories, I believe that practicing nurses can develop positive approaches based on their worldviews. One way through which nurses can overcome any worldview biases is by creating a personal statement that reminds them of their objectives of becoming nurses and what they would want to achieve. The combination of nursing philosophies and nursing theories can have a long-lasting positive impact on nurses in terms of the delivery of quality services.

Describe how the role of advanced registered nurse transformed over time. Consider shifts in scope and expectations in the 20th and 21st centuries. In what ways will the advanced registered nurse role and responsibilities continue to evolve and emerge as the American health care system changes?
Nursing is one of the professions that has continued to advance over the years. Nursing is critical as it ensures that the country’s healthcare system is kept in check. Traditionally, nurses are seen as support staff for the physicians. However, this rule has changed over time since nurses have sufficient training to provide primary care to patients. In the 20th century, nurses were only expected to function as helpers of medical doctors. However, this is changing gradually since nurses receive quality training to handle patients alone. Therefore, nurses are expected to ensure that all patients are comfortable and get the proper treatment. Through this, the nurses can now achieve the set nursing goals and ensure that all patients receive quality care.
Nurses are now playing new roles. According to Lopes-Júnior (2021), nurses are now coordinating care from multiple providers, helping the patients transition from the hospital to their home settings, and managing a caseload of patients who have intense care needs. Following this, it is evident that nurses have continued to get more roles in the 20th and 21st centuries. Nurses also work as health coaches as they help patients learn about various ways to prevent illnesses and promote wellness (Lopes-Júnior, 2021). Therefore, nurses have more roles and significantly impact the American healthcare system. Besides, the healthcare department is empowering nurses to make it easier for them to work towards achieving quality healthcare for all patients. As time progresses, the nurses’ roles and responsibilities will continue to change as they will be expected to do more. Therefore, the healthcare department will continue empowering nurses and giving them more roles to perform their duties as expected.

Nursing Regulatory Bodies are jurisdictional governmental entities that regulate nursing practice in all 50 states, four US territories, and the District of Columbia. The National Registration Boards set the criteria for safe nursing care and issue nursing licences (Papinaho et al., 2019). The NRB’s role does not end once a licence is awarded; they continue to monitor licensees’ compliance with jurisdictional laws and take appropriate action against the licences of nurses who have engaged in improper nursing practice.
The regulatory bodies in Michigan include The Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners and the Michigan Board of Nursing. The Nurse Practice Act is a law enforced by each NRB in each jurisdiction. In order to keep their licences, nurses must follow the legislation and relevant norms. The act specifies Qualifications for obtaining a licence, the scope of work, Nursing titles that are permissible to use, and actions that may or may not occur if a nurse fails to obey the nursing law.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing developed the APRN consensus model to increase job satisfaction and elevate APRN roles. The model significantly influences education and Nursing Competency as it states that: Nurse’s education must be coherent in terms of role and population focus (Buck, 2021). Secondly, APRNs are allowed to further their education and specialize but can not be licensed only in that field. Special interest groups and nursing organizations will establish education and assessment procedures for specialty areas.
Specialty education can be completed concurrently with the APRN coursework required for licensure or after graduation. Nursing boards will not assess or regulate specialty-level competency; instead, professional bodies will do so. In terms of experience, the model overcomes the barriers that prevent APRNs from practising within the full scope of their knowledge and skills. Secondly, there has been uniformity in licensure and titling across jurisdictions so that similar APRNs are no longer confused.

Advanced registered nurses work in highly collaborative environments and must collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in order to provide excellent patient care. Besides knowing the role and scope of one’s own practice, it is essential to understand the role and scope of other nurse specialties to ensure effective collaboration among nurses, the organization, and other professionals with whom advanced registered nurses regularly interact.
Use the “Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template” to differentiate how advanced registered nurse roles relate to and collaborate with different areas of nursing practice. Compare your future role with one of the following: nurse educator; nurse leader; family nurse practitioner; acute care nurse practitioner; graduate nurse with an emphasis/specialty in public health, health care administration, business, or informatics; clinical nurse specialist; doctor of nursing practice. Indicate in the appropriate columns on the template which roles you are comparing.
Make sure to compare the following areas of practice in your graphic organizer:
Include any regulatory bodies or certification agencies that provide guidance or parameters on how these roles incorporate concepts into practice.
You are required to cite three to five sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content. CNSs operate within the clinical setup and healthcare organizations, whereas nursing educators teach within nursing learning institutions.
EducationClinical nurse specialists are advanced registered nurses. They usually have attained a master’s degree or doctoral training in their specialty (Ko et al., 2019). They are also accredited to practice in the clinical setting. They can educate other nurses, as well as the general population, on matters of health in an evidence-based manner. The minimum qualification to work as a nurse educator is registered nurse certification together with certification in their field of teaching. However, this depends on the training institutions that may require a higher level of training, such as a master’s degree or doctoral training. The two professions require possession of a registered nurse certification.A Master’s degree or higher level qualifies one to be a clinical nurse specialist, which is not mandatory for a nurse educator.
LeadershipClinical nurse specialists play a critical leadership role within the healthcare organization. They engage in administrative and management roles and participate in major decision-making to ensure quality patient-centered care (Ko et al., 2019). They lead the nurses in consultation and collaboration with other healthcare professionals (Lamb et al., 2018). They also take part in the formulation of policies regarding patient management and govern other nurses in various units within the hospital in implementing patient nursing care.Nurse educators demonstrate leadership to their students by being their training facilitators. They are also role models and agents of change for the students through professional development. They also cultivate teamwork and collaboration among the students, especially in patient care.Clinical nurse specialists and nurse educators are both looked up to as role models by other nurses and students, respectively. They are both advocates for change through professional development and training.
CNSs play a leadership role within the clinical setting, whereas nurse educators lead in the learning institution setting.
CNSs equip their subordinates with evidence-based clinical skills in clinical nursing care which is limited as compared to learning institutions which majorly offer theoretical knowledge.
Public HealthCSNs ensure the provision of quality care to patients to ensure the wellness of the general population. Together with other multidisciplinary teams, they participate in health education for patients and the general public.Nurse educators enlighten the students on infection prevention and control as part of the curriculum. They also participate in and sometimes involve students in conducting scientific research on issues that may impact public health within the community.
Both contribute to public health through awareness creation.CSNs are in more contact with the patients and the general public and thus play a greater role in public health.
Health Care AdministrationCSNs play an administrative role in the hospital setting by overseeing other nursing staff. They also offer direct nursing care to patients.
Nursing educators have limited healthcare administration roles.
They, however, have the qualifications if needed.
Both have the competencies to offer health care administration.CSNs are better positioned to offer these services since they work within the hospital setting, whereas nurse educators may already have tight schedules in their training roles.
InformaticsCSNs may promote the use of technology for ease of communication with other staff as well as the use of telehealth to ensure broader coverage in patient care. Most learning institutions have implemented technology in training students; thus, nurse educators can disseminate information through such platforms. Both use information in their line of duty for communication and improved quality of learning and care services.
CSNs may be directly involved in installing and maintaining communication technologies within their workplace, whereas nurse educators’ role is limited.
Business/FinanceCSNs may participate in policy-making that ensures the cost-effective delivery of health services as they undertake their management roles.
Can offer help to institution leadership on how to offer effective and affordable learning to all students with the available resources. Both play a role in matters of finances within their respective institutions. CSNs are more involved due to their administrative and managerial role.Specialty (e.g., Family, Acute Care)Areas of specialties by CSNs include administration and management, research, and clinical practice within any relevant department within the hospital.
Areas of specialties available for nurse educators training learners within any faculty as well as an administrative role within the learning institution. Both have extensive opportunities, but the difference is the setup, which is either the hospital or the learning institution.Regulatory Bodies or Certification Agencies That Provide Guidance or Parameters on How These Roles Incorporate Concepts Into PracticeThe regulatory body is the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Certification is by the American Association College of Nursing. They are both headed by the Board of Directors within the state.
