William Shakespeare's Hamlet, a story grounded in worldly issues like morality, ...

William Shakespeare's Hamlet, a story grounded in worldly issues like morality, justice, and retribution, begins in a very otherworldly way: the appearance of a ghost desiring vengeance from beyond the grave. The supernatural confrontation between Hamlet and the ghost of his father is perhaps the most important scene in the play, however, as it not only sets the stage for the tragic whirlwind of emotion and death that follows, but offers some of the deepest insight into Hamlet's character and relationship with his beloved father that the text has to offer. In the short conversation between the two, the intense admiration and respect Hamlet has for his father is plainly revealed, as well as the differences between the father and the son that account for Hamlet's inability to act or find concrete moral truths in his world. While Hamlet is continuously conflicted about the issues of death and the afterlife, morality, and violent retribution throughout the play, the ghost of his father sees the situation as nothing more than a case of crime deserving punishment, a concept so simple yet effective that the constantly philosophical Hamlet cannot fully grasp it and is ultimately destroyed by it.

The memory of the dead king seems to be preserved by few people other than Hamlet throughout the play. Although he is widely accepted to have been a great and noble man, his son is the only person that still sadly mourns his death and worries about the state of the new kingdom. This leads to constant questioning among the other characters of the play about Hamlet's mental state before he learns the truth about his father's death. Even though he does not yet know that the king was murdered, why is Hamlet still so devastated by the loss of his father, and when, if ever, will he move on with his life?

Hamlet's first contact with the ghost helps to answer this question by exposing the stability and support that he finds in his mighty father's words and presence. Although he is not at first sure if the apparition is ìa spirit of health or goblin damnedî (1.4.40) and his friends warn frantically against following the ghost into an isolated place, Hamlet pleads with the ghost ìwhy is this? Wherefore? What should we do?î (1.4.57) He quickly dismisses his friends' doubts about his personal safety, in affect disregarding his reason and logic in the presence of what may be his father. The ghost has not yet said a word nor established who he is and what he wants, but Hamlet is nevertheless eager to obey and follow any instructions the ghost has for him because he wants to believe that it is indeed his father.

When Hamlet and the ghost are alone, the dead king finally confirms his identity and prepares his son for the shocking news, saying ìSo art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear.î (1.5.7) Before going into the details of his murder, he goes to great lengths to communicate the extent of his agony and rage to his son by claiming that he ìcould a tale unfold whose lightest word/Would harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood/Make thy two eyes like stars start from their spheres.î (1.5.15-17) Before Hamlet is even told the full story, his father has already made it clear what he expects of his son: shock and outrage so great that the motivation to act swiftly for revenge will be all consuming. Hamlet responds accordingly to the ghost that he is now sure is his father, stating, ìwith wings as swift/As meditation or the thoughts of love/May sweep to my revenge.î (1.5.29-31) We know, of course, that this is not the case at all; after his father's ghost departs, Hamlet is unable to act or even interpret his own emotions throughout the rest of the play, and therefore he is in effect only placating his father with his strong words.

A few lines into the ghost's story of his murder by Claudius, Hamlet utters the line ìO my prophetic soul!î (1.5.41), a statement that infers that the distraught prince has suspected all along that his uncle was in some way responsible for the king's death. Given that Claudius has not only usurped the crown that rightfully should belong to Hamlet, but also married his mother and in turn disrespected the relationship that existed between the king and prince Hamlet, one could reason that Hamlet was already given enough reason to feel anger and take action against Claudius but yet has not done so. Now that the person that he respects most has confirmed his suspicions and urged him to lash out in anger, Hamlet is free to openly express and nourish his rage into action. Yet by comparing Hamlet's strong words in the presence of the ghost to his words in later scenes, it's clear that Hamlet needs the power and motivation of his father to escape from his endless contemplation and justify murder for retribution.

The ghost departs after once again urging Hamlet to act quickly against Claudius while also advising that he ìTaint not thy mind, nor let the soul contrive/Against thy mother aught.î (1.5.85-6) Hamlet vows to remember his father and to avenge him swiftly by taking Claudius's life. Yet by the end of the act, only minutes after the ghost's departure, Hamlet is already showing signs of doubt and moral confliction, uttering the line ìThe time is out of joint. O cursed spite/That ever I was born to set it right!î (1.5.188-9)

After this scene, we never again see Hamlet entirely focused on his goal, showing clear resolve and purpose, understanding his emotions clearly, or free from endless contemplation and questioning of what he believes to be true. The ghost's purpose in confronting Hamlet was clear: to inform Hamlet of the need for vengeance, to provoke him with strong words to quick action, and to advise him not to be distracted with anger towards anyone but Claudius. Yet we instead see Hamlet use strange and counterproductive methods to avoid the bloody retribution his father requires of him, including feigning madness, devising an unusual scheme to expose the king's guilt, and also lashing out strongly against his mother. Hamlet's dead father embodies the strength and purpose that Hamlet needs to effectively act; without the king's advisement he is confused, emotional, overly contemplative, and frightened-essentially all the things that his father is not. Hamlet obviously loves his father and desires to fulfill his wish for vengeance, but the conversation between the two and the events that follow prove that although he tries to, Hamlet is unable to be the son that his father expects him to be.

After the World War I, President Wilson lead to the establishment of the League of Nations but was unable to guide the United States into this general society of states. Because the International Commission for Air Navigation was originally linked with the League, it became a reason for the United States not to join the League. Thus, the need for a different form of international cooperation on an American basis became the result of this situation. The Havana Convention became one of these.

Representatives/ delegates at the 5th International Conference of American States in Chile adopted a resolution to create an Inter-American Commercial Aviation Commission to meet to consider aviation problems. The conclusion of this commission was to be drawn up in the form of a convention (agreement between countries) and considered by the members of the Pan-American Union.

In Washington the Commercial Aviation Commission came up with the project of Pan-American Convention of Aerial Navigation. It was finalized it in 1928 under the Sixth Pan-American Conference. This conference was the U.S.’s last chance to save their reputation in Central America. Coolidge went to Cuba in 1928 to attend the 6th Pan American Conference and to attempt to quell Central American resentment towards U.S. military presence and U.S. foreign policy. President Coolidge addressed the conference and the Unites States, along with some other American states, signed the convention. The reputation of the International Commission for Air Navigation weakened with the new convention signed.

The Havana Convention specifically applied to private aircraft and mutual air passage freedom. The Convention laid down rules and principles for air traffic and established that every state had authority over the airspace over its land and territorial waters. However, there were no attempts to develop uniform technical standards. There were no provisions for recurrent discussion on common problems through the agency of a permanent organization. The Havana Convention also had no uniform laws provided and aircraft regulations were to be done according to the laws of each country.

The Havana Convention was approved by the United States Senate by 1931 but was registered with the League of Nations by 1932. The Pan-American Agreement was successful and signed by twenty-one and ratified by sixteen states. The International Commission for Air Navigation met with the Pan-American Union and agreed that they should work together, and the International Commission for Air Navigation share all the information it receives with the Pan-American Union in return for documentation of the same order that the Union can gather. Unfortunately, the Havana Convention was not sufficient after World War II due to the huge development in aviation during the war. The Convention on International Civil Aviation was signed in 1944, replacing the Havana Convention.

Having childhood dreams and life goals can determine what your future will hold. During childhood, most children comprise dreams that may be unattainable, like being a Rockstar, playing for MLB, or being a famous fashion designer; but they also procure dreams that are realistic. Some realistic dreams children aspire to are: riding the highest roller coaster, swimming with dolphins or being a doctor. I have learned that childhood dreams can help life goals get underway, all that needs to be incited is perseverance, persistence, hard-work ethic, and drive. Even though accoomplishing goals is not easy and takes hard work and patience, having and accomplishinf life goals is of the upmost importance because having goals can set up one for a bright future and creates structure in ones life. Thus far in my life, I have had many dreams and have achieved many of my life goals. As a child, my biggest dream was to one day be a famous singer.

Something that has been a dream of mine since I was a vivacious five-year-old, was to attend my Mom’s Alma Marter, the University of Redlands. However, my most significant goal in life is to help society. Hopefully, fulfilling my dreams and life goals will ensure that I have a life full of happiness and value. To begin with, childhood dreams are important to the future we have. As a child, dreams are on a wide spectrum between unfeasible and realistic. Some children have dreams of being rockstars, while others dream of being a chef. But, something I have learned is they don’t only include being something, but also doing something, for instance, climbing Mt. Everest or traveling to England. In The Last Lecture, Pausch talks about a childhood dream that he had was playing in the NFL, and though he never made it, he learned some very valuable lessons. The main importance of dreams that stem from childhood, is that they can teach life lessons on the way. Throughout The Last Lecture, Pausch learned many lessons, but there are two that really stood out to me was dealing with critics and acquiring self-esteem. According to Pausch, “When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s bothering to tell you anymore, that’s a bad place to be. You may not want to hear it, but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you, and want to make you better” (Pausch 37). Many times on the journey to achieving dreams people will be faced with criticism and having high-self-esteem can be helpful to overcome criticism. High-self-esteem is a crucial part in accomplishing dreams because it gives personal motivation to keep pursuing those dreams until they have been accomplished. In the chapter “I Never Made It to the NFL”, Pausch discusses the importance of having great self-esteem and that it is something that comes from within, and is a motivating factor in achieving dreams.

Dreams aren’t always the easiest tasks to accomplish, especially if they may be outreaching, but if one is motivated and willing to work for it, they can be achieved. Pausch says, “You give them something they can’t do, they work hard until they find they can do it, and you just keep repeating the process” (Pausch 37). Having childhood dreams are important because they help pave the way to a bright future, just like setting life goals. Secondly, setting goals in life are very significant and are beneficial in having a fulfilling life. There are many ways having life goals can impact ones’ life. A major way having goals can be beneficial is to what one achieves (Latham 126).

Life goals set a path for ones’ life and have many beneficial factors including preventing distraction, give focus, help motivate, and help measure personal progress. Goals are what help us move forward throughout everyday life. They are the initial steps to each step of our journies and are also the steps that conclude them. It’s crucial to understand the importance and significance of goal setting in life. In Flourishing: The Positive Person and the Good Life, Robert Emmons states, “Goals are essential components of a person’s experience of his or her life as meaningful and contribute to the process by which people construe their lives as meaningful or worthwhile” (Emmons 107). According to many experts on the importance of having life goals, is setting goals throughout ones’ life helps ensure have a fulfilling or meaningful life. Many of them agreed that the majority of peoples primary goal in life is to be happy. With the importance of making life goals, many of the experts also expressed the importance of the kind of goals to set, and that it is better to set goals that will endure over time. In Latham’s passage of The Motivational Benefits of Goal-Setting, he says, “Goal-setting theory also asserts that people with specific hard goals (often called “stretch” goals) perform better than those with vague goals such as “do your best” or specific easy goals” (Latham 126). Having life goals has greatly impacted my life’s journey thus far, and they continue to lead me down a better path. Correspondingly, one of my childhood dreams that is most significant to me is that I have always wanted to be a famous singer. Some of my first memories as a child were the days of when I was in a child choir. I have always loved to sing and it has always brought me such happiness.

There is one considerable problem, that this dream of mine is not very realistic, as the statistics of following my dream and becoming a famous singer are very low. In Myths and Realities of Professional Singing, Stapp said, “Professional singing can bring great rewards, but ample remuneration is rarely one of them., … singing is a grueling job that requires enormous sacrifices on the way” (Stapp 2). Unfortunately, there are many negative factors for me to consider while chasing my dream of becoming a famous singer. Some negative factors are the possibility of making a living, paparazzi, no privacy, criticism, rumors, constant travel, no family time, trust, and perfection at all times. These seem like very daunting factors, but they have not discouraged me. Thus far, I have not accomplished this dream, but I am definitely in pursuit of it. A major reason I haven’t pushed harder to achieve my dream is that since I’ve been older, I get so nervous and anxious that usually, nothing comes out when I attempt to sing in front of an audience. But, this is just a hurdle in my journey to reach my dream. I am going to continue singing lessons and start recording my music. Though I know, this is one of those dreams out of left field, I will continue my pursuit of becoming a famous singer through hard work and dedication, and though the possibility of failure is high, I don’t know what I can do if I don’t try. As Elbert Hubbard said, “There is no failure except in no longer trying.” In addition to dreams I have, attending the University of Redlands has been a dream of mine.

Ever since I was a child, I have wanted to attend the University of Redlands. Growing up as the daughter of a previous Bulldog, I have attended many school events and functions. Every year we have attended the annual 4th of July fireworks show, and I have always thought how spectacular it would be to attend Redlands. I was very crushed in high school because I saw my dream of attending the University of Redlands fade away due to my poor grades. However, hope was restored when I decided to return to college, and I am now an honor student. I knew I was going to apply to the University of Redlands, is because I can’t imagine furthering my education at another school. I have wanted to attend a school that will help me strive for excellence and to be successful, and I know the University of Redlands will do just that. Amazingly, I have just accomplished this dream. On June 1, I accepted an academic excellence scholarship to attend Redlands this fall, and start in September. With accomplishing this dream, I have learned that I can do anything if I put my mind to it and am willing to work hard to reach it. Finally, the most important goal that I have besides being happy is to help society become a more exceptional place. The best way I have conceived to achieve this goal is to become President of the United States. I know this goal is one that will be incredibly difficult to attain. When I tell people that I wasn’t to be President someday, they think I’m dreaming or overreaching, but they don’t know my reasoning behind it. I want to become President to make our Country equal for all persons and bring a voice to all people who have been silenced in the past. Now, this is my expansive goal, but I have learned the importance of setting smaller, more attainable goals, in order to reach my expansive one. In order to achieve my goal of becoming President to help people in society, I have set a few small-scale goals as benchmarks on my journey.

The first goal I want to achieve is to receive my Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in pre-law. My next goal is to attend a top law school and become a defense attorney. Once I am a defense attorney, I want to spend my free time working on the Innocence Project pro-bono in order to help wrongfully convicted felons get released from prison. Eventually, I want to go into politics and be a Senator of California to gain a better understanding of politics. Experts on the importance of setting goals say that it is important to set goals that are: challenging, specific, meaningful and measurable. In Setting Goals: Who, Why, How?, Turkay discussed how important these factors are together in achieving goals and concluded his passage with, “As [people] go through the cycle of goal setting, regulating and attaining, they will become proficient in evaluating their capabilities to engage in these tasks and develop their selfregulatory competencies, which is one of the key skills for 21st century [individual]” (Turkay 9). Now, I have yet to achieve these goals as I am currently working on my Bachelors, but I have already taken the first step in my pursuit to achieve my goal. I know that I have set high goals for myself, but the only person who can stand in my way is me, and I intend to persevere through all obstacles in my path. In conclusion, it is surprisingly important of how having childhood dreams and life goals can impact someone’s life. Unfortunately, it isn’t about if you have childhood dreams of life goals, but its what you do to accomplish them. Childhood dreams can be the stepping stones on the path to a successful life. In order to reach your dreams and to achieve your goals, it takes perseverance, persistence, hard-work ethic, and drive. Throughout my life, I have tried to reach all the goals I have set for myself and to reach all my dreams. No, I have not accomplished everything, but I will not stop trying until I succeed. As my Mom always says, “Anything worth having is worth working for.” I hope that by the end of my life, I have used all the lessons I have learned on the way to achieving all my goals.

To reach one’s dreams it requires one’s ability to check one’s steps as one progresses. This works for me! I have always been on the watch out of my ambition. I continually develop myself passionately. I have been progressive in life due to self motivation.

I could vividly remember no too long ago when I was younger; I used to ask myself so many questions about why I was born, my importance in the society and the true essence why I must achieve success in life. All these questions are what I was able to find answers to as time ticked by. I realized that, to be successful in life one needs goals and dreams, and the true essence of life is to passionately work, to love and be loved.

I could remember how physics subject used to be difficult for me back in high school when I first started, but I challenged myself to be one of the best physics students and I realized my dream by constantly reading and solving physics problems. Having achieved so much in physics, it didn’t stop there, on getting to University of Ilorin, one of the best Federal Universities in Nigeria, my dreams of becoming one of the students not only in my class but in the entire school of engineering was achieved even though several challenges were encountered many times on the way. The road was rough from complex projects, complex assignment, lack of conducive environment for learning and studying but, I remained and stayed focused. So finally I achieved my dream, I was amongst the best graduating students. I was happy that my goals were achieved and I realized that my success is even far beyond academic success but being able to implement the knowledge acquired in the university to actualize the main dream. The main dream is to be skilled and get a well paid employment from a multinational civil engineering company.

After the graduating among the best students in the department, I set out a scale of preference which would enable me to get the best skills that will help me in achieving my dreams. I learnt and I engaged in so many software training and it was fun playing with those software. After I was convinced and confident, I then applied to so many civil engineering organizations.

And then I passed so many aptitude job exams and I was called for interviews; however, after I had gone for many interviews I considered China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) because of so many reasons, first, it’s a multinational company and have a railway construction project going on at hand in my country which happens to be a unique project in Nigeria construction industry. This is an added advantage for me to learn, grow and thus getting me closer to my dream of becoming a chartered civil engineer. My dreams hasn’t stopped there, I realized I needed more and I asked myself many questions like what I if became an overall manager how do I manage the staff and the resources at my disposal? Or what about when I set up my own engineering firm in the future, the question is how do I manage the resources? And currently as an engineer how do I manage my team? This is the true essence of living… Having dreams and being able to achieve them, even makes ones to feel better.

Communication dictates organizational performance. Organizational activities are developed based on the communication strategy that has been implemented. Organizational understanding and interaction is defined by how organizations ensures that there is positive development within organizational context and business environment. Organizational culture that is employed within organizational environment is based on crucial understanding on the key underlying issues where it would be possible to develop a crucial understanding on what needs to develop with organizational context where relationships within organizational environment can be developed and modified.

Organizations are developed in creating a better environment where they can be able to integrate positive development within organizational context. Communication is the only possible way where an organization is developed. Communication makes it easier to understand the objectives of an organization. The manner in which an organization is able to develop a better understanding on its development strategy is critical in improving the objectives. Objectives and organizational goals need to be developed using important communication skills where every employees within the organization can be well aware of their role and what they have to achieve to ensure that the organization is able to have successful engagement. The communication skills that are integrated in this case must be able to ensure that cultural diversity barrier does not limit the company development focus but ensure that there is a positive environment where different employees within organizational context can be effectively engaged and have a greater understanding on the strategy that is put in place in improving organizational performance. Communications strategy that is adopted within organizational setting should be able to have a positive engagement under which it will be much easier to develop greater understanding on what needs to be implemented in developing positive organizational interactions. Intercultural communication within organizational environment requires significant efforts from both employees and management in a bid to create a more engaging environment where cultural diversity can be successful. The organizational environment is another significant area where intercultural communication is significant. Embracing cultural diversity within workforce is key in creating better working environment. Therefore, organizations need to keep into consideration a number of significant factors, which create a better environment where intercultural communication can flourish. Culture is an important of human interaction since it creates a better environment where individuals tend to focus on in creating a better working environment (Mai & Hoffmann, 2014).

An organization usually puts into focus both internal and external communication plans where it is possible to have a greater focus in ensuring that there is positive engagement within and outside the internal communication plan focuses on creating an improved employee engagement within an organization. A key initiative for internal communication plan is to integrate technology effectively and appropriately. Choosing the communication tool within an organization is an important since it streamlines the organizational interaction, which is regulated. Technology use is a critical aspect to consider in the internal organizational engagement since it provides an effective environment where better organizational interactions can be based (Adler, Rodman & DuPré, 2016).

Another significant initiative for internal communication plan is to provide meaningful incentives to encourage participation and feedback, which is crucial within organization environment. The internal communication plan therefore should be significantly engaged to ensure that employee have a better access to crucial organizational communication plan which motivates improved organizational performance. Aligning the internal communication plan with the human resource plan is an important initiative, which focuses on improving the organizational engagement (Mai & Hoffmann, 2014).

External players within an organization environment focuses on stakeholders within organizational environment who have indirect influence on the company performance. Developing a diverse external communication framework is an important initiative, which ensure that the organization is able to communicate effective with the diverse external players who are essential in the development process of the organizational performance. The strategy must be able to put into focus the underlying elements under which it is possible to ensure that everyone within organizational context is able to understand what is being discussed in order to participate actively (Adler, R., Rodman, G. R., & DuPré, 2016).

Additional element that can be considered in this case is focus on creating a large strategy within organizational environment under which it is possible to have a positive environment under which it is possible to have a greater focus and understanding regarding important aspects that need to be developed within an organization. Planning within a business environment is one of the most vital processes, which means that there is need to incorporate positive measures in improving the overall understanding on the discussion within organization environment. Messages need to be delivered effective and using simple language where the purpose of the communication can be effectively identified (Adler, Rodman, & DuPré, 2016).

Communication forms the basis of any interaction at any given level. This means that there is need to ensure that the significant communication aspects are put into consideration to ensure that a given interaction is successful. A successful interaction means that encoding, decoding of messages is very clear, and the decisions that are made reflect the discussions made. In most cases, communication is not an issue among individuals with same cultural background since they are able to understand each other effectively. Challenges arise where the communication process involves individuals with varying cultural background, which brings into consideration the language issues (DiSanza & Legge, 2016).

Organization that I would like to work for in future

Every individual always have a certain dream organization which provides a greater focus and understanding on important elements that needs to be considered in creating a highly engaged personal and professional development. I would like to work for an organization that appreciates their employees where they focus on developing personal and professional growth that is a key aspect, which creates a greater understanding on what needs to be considered within organizational context. The organization should also have a greater focus on the underlying positive focus on promotional chances. An organization that has a greater understanding and focus on employees issues forms a key element that I would consider in striving to work for. An organization that appreciates its employees allows for positive development and employee commitment where there is significant focus on company performance rather than side shows. Another important thing that I would consider is compensation and benefits. Compensation plays a key role in motivating employees within a given organizational environment. Being able to be compensated based on the work done is an important aspect, which focus on improving the overall employee engagement.

Different organization are engaged differently within their respective operational environment focusing on attracting employees. Having integrated personal and organizational values is an important element, which is crucial in developing a positive and a highly engaged focus where it is possible to have a greater positive environment. Sharing personal and organizational values help in ensuring that there is greater focus on key issues where it would be possible to focus on improving both personal and organizational development. It is very difficult to have a positive development where there is significant difference between personal and organizational values since it is very difficult to grow personally as well as creating an organizational focus within organizational context. I will put these elements into focus in having a choice regarding the best company to work for. Having positive understanding on the type of organization that I would work for is key in creating an improved focus within organizational context (Rentz & Lentz, 2013).

Strong communication skills influence

Being successful within organizational context puts into focus the interaction process with other employees; these interactions are defined by the communication strategy that has been outlined by the organization. Having string communications skills therefore will plays a key role in positively improving the overall wellbeing of the organizational success where it would be possible to have successful organizational engagement. Strong communication skills will ensure that I am able to engage effectively with others as well as abiding by the highlighted organizational operational framework. String communication skills seeks to create an improved organizational environment where it is possible to have a higher level of focus within organizational environment. It is important to ensure that communication is developed as a strength and not weakness considering the integral role played by communication within organizational context. Everything within an organization can only be achieved by ensuring that there is a better understanding on the need to integrate positive communication skills (DiSanza & Legge, 2016).

In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a division between the truth and a Puritan society tainted by hypocrisy. Such a division existed in Hawthorne’s life as well. Born into a historically Puritan family, Hawthorne developed an obsession with his Salemite ancestors as well as guilt for their role in the witch trials. As Hawthorne matured, he found solace in the doctrine of Transcendentalists. However, failure and disillusionment forced Hawthorne to ultimately accept his true identity—a theme that pervades The Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne and Hester embark on twin journeys together, with Hester’s struggles and triumphs echoing those of Hawthorne.

Hawthorne feels a residual culpability for the judgments of his ancestors, and attempts to distance himself from the Puritan culture. Although research has shown that the earliest Hathorne (the original spelling) “came to Massachusetts Bay in 1630,” the true source of Hawthorne’s grief was Judge William Hathorne; the Judge “was a member of the Colonial Assembly during the period of the persecution” of the Salem witches and Quakers (Stearns). Hawthorne reflects upon this familial stigma in “The Custom-House.” The narrator of this introduction, who speaks partly if not entirely for Hawthorne himself, recalls his “steeple-crowned progenitor, …a bitter prosecutor” (Hawthorne 5). Hawthorne clearly feels implicated in his ancestor’s crime, as his literary twin laments, “I… hereby take shame upon myself for their sakes” (Hawthorne 6). Although “Hester Prynne” did not exist to her creator at this point, her beginning is remarkably similar to that of Hawthorne; both were marked by the Puritans as sinners. Tortured by this stigma, Hawthorne endeavors to distance himself from his Puritan past. Hawthorne’s insertion of a “w” into his family name, “Hathorne,” could indicate his attempts to redefine himself. Hawthorne continued down this path to self-discovery as he delved further into the world of transcendentalism.

The Scarlet Letter indicates Hawthorne’s intellectual growth in that it advocates his new transcendental ideals. Sophia Peabody, Hawthorne’s wife, first exposed him to the Transcendental movement, and subsequent interactions with Ralph Waldo Emerson crystallized Hawthorne’s new ideology (www.uwm.edu). The transcendentalists believed in “individual responsibility,” a motif that saturates The Scarlet Letter (www.uwm.edu). Hester embodies this value through not only taking responsibility for her sin, but maturing as a result of it. In contrast to Dimmesdale’s hypocrisy, Hester wears her sin with “a certain state and dignity” (37) that Hawthorne rewards. While Dimmesdale fails to consider his responsibility as an individual, “Hester Prynne [has] no selfish ends,” and therefore “the scarlet letter cease[s] to be a stigma” (179). Hawthorne views Hester’s passion and individualism as a positive trait, and he demonstrates through his prose how such characteristics will prevail over hypocritical morality. However, just as Hester struggled to maintain her identity, difficult circumstances caused Hawthorne to falter on his own path to enlightenment.

Hawthorne subscribed wholeheartedly to the transcendental doctrine. Hungry for manifestations of the transcendental ideal rather than theory, Hawthorne joined the Brook Farm Utopian Community (Stearns). Brook Farm purported to be an escape from “from the trickery of trade, the pedantry of colleges, the flunkyism of office, and the arrogant pretensions of wealth” (ibid.). Hawthorne, however, found the endless philosophizing of Brook Farmers tiresome, and he experienced a general “mental disturbance” ( ibid.). Hawthorne failed to find enlightenment in transcendentalism as Brooks Farm was nothing more than an escape; similarly, Hawthorne describes how Hester’s plans to escape with Dimmesdale result in only tragedy. Disillusioned and poor, Hawthorne was forced to return to the Custom-House— a reminder of the Puritan society that he had nearly succeeded in escaping. Hawthorne passively accepted this role, an action that is echoed in The Scarlet Letter. Hester removes her letter, and sunshine floods the forest; Hawthorne describes how “the objects that had made a shadow hitherto” were “embodied by the brightness now” (139). The light represents a divine truth, a truth with which Hester can finally live. Upon Pearl’s insistence, however, Hester submissively reattaches the letter, and “a gray shadow” covers her (145). Therefore, Hester’s attainment of truth was merely ephemeral, just like Hawthorne’s period of deluded “enlightenment” at Brooks Farm. Perhaps Hawthorne subconsciously mirrored his own struggles in his heroine in order to cope; perhaps the similarity is intentional. The parallels between Hester and Hawthorne’s metamorphoses, however, are too great to be ignored.

Ultimately, Hawthorne accepts his inexorable connection to Puritanical New England. Hawthorne, speaking through his “fictional” Custom-House worker, accepts that his characteristics of his ancestors’ “nature have intertwined themselves with” his own essence (6). Rather than use transcendentalism to fight his true heritage, Hawthorne marries transcendental ideals with his identity. In the same way, Hester transcends the power of the scarlet letter through accepting its presence. The connection between life and art becomes shockingly clear as Hawthorne’s life story unravels. Hawthorne’s ancestry is his scarlet letter, yet only with the complex golden threads of transcendentalism does it become more than a stigma.

Belonging is an intrinsic human need, existing on both a physical and psychological level. It is one's sense of connection with people, objects or places, and consequently many consider that achieving a sense of belonging enables one to live a more positive and optimistic life. As such, belonging is a value which society holds paramount. However, despite the constructive influences formed by belonging, it inevitably coexists with its destructive reciprocal, alienation, simply because wherever one belongs, they are elsewhere alienated. Raimond Gaita's 1998 biographical memoir Romulus, my Father and Hayao Miyazaki's 2001 animated film Spirited Away both thoroughly explore the concepts of belonging and alienation, employing various literary and filmic techniques to express these ideas. They both ultimately emphasise that through experiencing belonging, one can peacefully exist in a community through being granted an essence of self-security.

A sense of belonging is integral for an individual to function properly in a given society, and is catalysed by interactions with and acceptance by others. A simple impression of acceptance gives one the feeling that their existence is acknowledged and that their life has purpose. In Romulus, my Father, Romulus' selfless treatment of Raimond "he denied himself so that I would have more, he fainted on more than one occasion", establishes a strong paternal relationship between the two, allowing them to continue living despite enduring hardships as "times were hard, with severe shortages of everything". We see that although Gaita is disregarded by his mother Christine, his firm connection with his father allows him to continue living unhindered and with little psychological impact. The juxtaposition of “my father’s devoted care” with “her neglect” contrasts Christine’s treatment of Gaita with that of Romulus and emphasises how it strengthened their bond. Thus, he accentuates how he matured with an optimistic psyche because of Romulus' positive treatment during his youth.

Similarly, the scene in Spirited Away where Rin helps Chihiro find work in the spirit world's bathhouse emphasises Rin's acceptance of Chihiro despite Chihiro being a human. This is expressed through the concerned tone in her question "are you feeling okay?" depicted in the wide angle shot capturing her gently caressing Chihiro. A sense of belonging culminates from such acknowledgement, and thus Chihiro is able to live properly in this completely different society despite her rejection by everyone else. This hostility is captured through the mise en scene of Chihiro standing in front of a group of workers looking at her disgustedly, reinforced by one worker's use of hyperbole "she'll stink up the whole place". Chihiro's ability to endure the hardships of her seclusion is evident in her confident tone when she repetitively asks Yubaba for work, "Please, can't you give me a job?". Her sense of belonging with Rin despite being excluded by the others is similar to Gaita's connection with Romulus regardless of Christine's neglect. Both texts effectively reinforce the importance of interactions with others in achieving a sense of belonging.

One of the fundamental aspects of belonging is the essence of self-security that it offers, and it is through this that one is protected by the psychological distress brought about by alienation. Gaita's early reciting of his grandmother's words "this child I am carrying will suffer" foreshadows the devastation of Christine. It is later alluded to by the metaphor "a dead red gum...became for my mother a symbol of her desolation", which juxtaposed with the succeeding mention of trees from her European homeland, "peppercorns and cypresses surrounded the house" emphasises her alienation and disconnection with Australia. The destruction of Christine caused by her segregation is exemplified through the repetitive allusions to her mental state, such as "the torments of her hallucinations", ultimately leading to her suicide, "she killed herself only days after their conversation". Furthermore, Gaita contrasts the fall of his mother through the security he felt by belonging with Romulus. He reminisces Romulus' "strong, bare, sun-darkened arms on either side of me", utilising the symbolism of his arms as a defensive barrier against the ruin brought by isolation. This is reinforced by how his "muscular arms protected me from their terrible meaning". Gaita ultimately shows us that self-security is a vital characteristic of belonging through demonstrating the effects of both his mother's dissociation and his own sense of belonging.

In the same way, Chihiro experiences suffering in Spirited Away from the alienation she faces living in the spirit world. The scene where she signs the contract to work for Yubaba, the bathhouse owner, highlights the importance of belonging in shaping one's identity. As a condition of the contract, she is forced to effectively relinquish her name, which is essentially her identity to Yubaba, delineated by the highly modal tone "So your name's Chihiro? What a pretty name...and it belongs to me now". The high angle shot capturing Yubaba magically erasing Chihiro's name from the contract is symbolic of one's loss of identity. The impact of this is illustrated shortly after, when Chihiro, now under the new name Sen, realises she has already forgotten her real name, portrayed in her incredulous tone "I can't believe I forgot my name". The mental trauma she experiences from this realisation is evident in the close up shot depicting her uncontrollably sobbing, which is coupled with non-diegetic piano music to generate a melancholic atmosphere. Miyzaki uses this scene to evoke pathos from audiences as they empathise with her. Hence, he highlights the consequences of Chihiro's loss of identity, similar to Gaita's recount of the mental degradation of his mother resulting from her alienation. Both Miyazaki and Gaita exemplify the pessimism of a lack of self-security, which results from failing to achieve a sense of belonging.

As such, we can see through the deconstruction of Raimond Gaita's memoir Romulus, my Father and Hayao Miyazaki's animated film Spirited Away how the complex nature of belonging results from its significant influence in shaping an individual's life. Both the constructiveness of achieving a sense of belonging and the destruction resulting from belonging's reciprocal, alienation, are evident in both texts, portrayed through a variety of literary and filmic devices. Ultimately, both composers effectively exhibit the importance of an individual’s sense of belonging as it rewards them with a positive attitude towards life, accompanied by a feeling of self-security.

According to Rene Wellek and Austin Warren, “By ‘Psychology of literature’ we may mean psychological study of writer, as individual, or the study of creative process, or the study of the psychological types and laws present within works of literature, or, finally, the effects of literature upon its reader”.

Based on Wellek and Warren’s opinion, psychology of literature has four brances, as follow : 1) The psychological study of the writer, as type as individual, 2) The study of creative process, 3) The study of the psychological types and laws present within work of literature, 4) The effect of literature upon its reader.

Analysis

The aim of this paper is to describe the internal conflict of the main character in the novel The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. The internal conflict is faced by Hazel Grace Lancaster as the main character. The internal conflicts are:

Hazel Grace had been with Stage IV thyroid cancer when she was thirteen. When she was fourteen, her lungs started to fill up with water. She could not breathe like a normal person. This condition made Hazel desperates in her life. Every day she struggles with her cancer. She thinks she makes an earthquake to her parents. It can be seen in the quotation in the novel below:

I had a sugery called radical neck dissection, which is about as pleasant as it sounds. Then radiation. Then they tried some chemo for my lung tu,ors. The tumors shrank, then grew. By then, I was fourteen. My lungs started to fill up with water. I was looking pretty dead — my hands and feet balloned; my skin cracked; my lips were perpetually blue. They’ve got this drug that makes you not feel so completely terrified about the fact that you can’t breathe, and I had a lot of it flowing into me through a PICC line, and more than a dozen other drugs besides.

From the quotation above, it shows that Hazel struggles with her cancer. She should had a surgery called radical neck dissection, radiation, and then the doctor tried some chemos for her lung tumors when she was fourteen.

Hazel Grace Lancaster is a sixteen years old girl who suffers from thyroid cancer that has affected to her lungs and she needs to breathe with oxygen from a tank at all times throughout the day. Hazel feels so depressed because of her cancer and she can not breathe like a normal person, makes her parents happy, doing the daily activities like the others teenagers, making more friends, and going to dates. Her parents want Hazel have a normal life like the other teenagers but she always refuses it. She just wants to stay at home and always with her parents because Hazel always feels she is just a burden and will destroying her parents life, its always haunts her. She calls herself a grenade for her parents. It can be seen in the quotation below:

“I’m like. Like. I’m a grenade, Mom. I’m a grenade and at some point I’m going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualities, okay?”

The others quotation that Hazel said she is a grenade:

“I’m a grenade, “I said again. “I just want to staw away from people and read books and think and be with you guys because there’s nothing I can do about hurting you”

“I don’t need to get out more. And I can’t be a regular teenager, because I’m a grenade.”

From the quotation above, it is visible that Hazel has the internal conflict because her depressed feeling. Hazel feels depressed because she is a grenade, she will blow up without knowing when. She is sad because she destroys her parents’ life when she dies.

Hazel Grace never falls in love with anyone before she meets Augustus Water. She is falling in love with Augustus. Hazel loves Augustus and Augustus loves Hazel too but, Hazel can not express and tells her feeling toward Augustus. Because she feels she just a grenade that is going to explode one day and Hazel does not want to make Augustus be her victims. She tells Augustus that she can not be his girlfriend, because it will hurt for Augustus. The quotation that Hazel loves Augustus:

I nodded I liked Augustus Waters. I really, really, really, liked him. I liked the way his story ended with someone else. I liked his voice. I liked that he took existentially fraught free throws. I liked that he was a tenured professor in the department of Slightly Crooked Smiles with a dual appointment in the Department of Having a Voice That made My Skin Feel More Like Skin. And I liked that he had two names. I’ve always liked people with two names, because you get to make up your mind what you call them: Gus or Augustus? Me, I was always just Hazel, univalent Hazel. From the quotation above, it shows that Hazel loves Augustus. She likes all about Augustus. She thinks that Augustus is gorgeous but, she scares and does not want to tell Augustus about her feeling toward him. This condition makes her desperate. She scared that she will make Augustus hurt because of her.

A role model is an individual whose conduct, style or achievement is or can be imitated by others, particularly by more youthful individuals. The term good example is credited to humanist Robert K. Merton, who authored the expression during his profession. Merton theorized that people contrast themselves and reference gatherings of individuals who involve the social job which the individual yearns for. A model being the manner in which youthful fans will venerate and emulate proficient competitors or diversion specialists. A role model can be an athlete or an actor or might be just an honest person. I want to talk about Prophet Muhammad as a role model in this essay.

Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallahu-Alayhi- Wa-Salam) is my idol and I feel that he’s the best good example for all humankind since he had a decent good character. Additionally the prophet Muhammad was the best instructor, the closest companion, the best father, the best spouse, the best watchman of the vagrants, and so on. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was thoughtful and neighborly and he adored helping other people. He never used to hurt others feeling. He used to make others grin and used to help them in their challenges. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has the best character, qualities, and ethics. I truly need to resemble him.

Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) was born in the period of Rabi-ul-Awal. He is an encapsulation of kindness for all humankind. Every one of the prophets guided the people. However, Mohammad (PBUH) acquired an insurgency the lives of the individuals. This upheaval is model less throughout the entire existence of humankind. Our affection for the Prophet (PBUH) includes the commitment and energy for him as well as to pursue his deeds moreover. There is no alternative left for us yet to pursue his lessons. The Quran and Sunnah are the premise of our religion. The heavenly way of life of the Prophet (PBUH) guides us in our individual and aggregate life.

Indeed, even at in early age, the Prophet Muhammad demonstrated astounding thought to everyone around him. In spite of the absence of a consistent dad figure and the numerous preliminaries he suffered in his childhood, the Prophet kept on persisting and serve the individuals who were around him.

After the demise of his granddad, he was sent to live with his Uncle, Abu Talib. Abu Talib had numerous kids yet he constantly regarded the Prophet Muhammad as his very own and didn’t deny him of what he required. He was known to be a liberal man and would consistently encourage the travelers when they would come to make journey.

Prophet (PBUH) was the embodiment of good habits. Each activity that He attempted in life spoke to the most noteworthy ethics and habits that an individual could display. He was an Ideal being regarding habits and morals, any semblance of which the world has not seen. “The Prophet (PBUH) did not swear at anyone, nor was He rude, nor did He curse anyone. If He desired to reprimand someone, He would say: ‘What is wrong with him, may dust be cast in his face!”.

The general idea with respect to Islam and Prophet (PBUH) is that the two of them supported savagery in individuals and were and are not for harmony. It is absolutely ridiculous, in light of the fact that the religion Islam itself is harmony and Prophet (PBUH) was an admirer of harmony. He needed individuals to live in congruity and constantly supported individuals settle their disparities by deciding on harmony, rather than going for brutality.

“Let us go to resolve the situation and make peace between them.”

I generally attempt to pursue Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallahu-Alayhi-Wa-Salam), on the grounds that he is my preferred good example. I unequaled attempt to talk reality. I never torment anybody with my work. I generally attempt to remain with feeble individuals and attempt to help them in my best exertion. I generally regard and welcome to known and obscure of all individual. By tailing him currently appears to me, I am blessed.

The Gen Y customer segment of 75 million, i.e. individuals born between 1982 and 1995 have different characteristics as compared to other customers. The expectation among customer is rising as they want to experience a seamless experience through Omni channel, anywhere and anytime banking facilities. They want an integrated online, mobile and in person services.

The two-three most promising areas where digital advances could revolutionise the customer experience are artificial intelligence, chatbots and personalization. Internet of Things is another area where some form of banking transactions could take place. Connected devices, equipped with biometric capabilities, could help enable transaction banking. Service offerings that combine these technologies could make banking very different from what it is today. For instance, you have a device say your smart phone from where AI gathers information of your spending habits or preferences or location, makes sense of the information and drives banking decisions. Another example where, in a pilot project, a customer's phone location using triangulation with the location of the ATM where his debit card is being used for a transaction. If the customer's phone was found far away from the ATM, the system would decline the transaction, with the assumption being that the customer normally carries his/her mobile phone to the ATM. Such hyper-localization can be tested in several areas: security, transactions, marketing. To take another case where a customer has browsed through a website/app for booking a movie ticket, and then proceeded to go to the mall where the cinema was located. If the customer has reached early, the system knows the customer has free time. The cinema may have a tie-up with its neighbouring coffee shop and sends him a message with a customized offer to spend time there! A number of technologies would have come together to make this possible.

On basis of technology consenting, the customer classifications have been done in following three categories and their characteristics are:

1.Digital Natives

Vast knowledge and heavy use of Social Media, mobile web and new technologies.

Financially relatively weak today

2.Digital Migrants

Fast adapters to new technology to leverage the advantages for daily life

Hesitant at digital advice but willing to try

Financially relatively strong today

3.Digital Deniers

Mostly elderly, technology averse people

Seeking financial advice from experts in face-to-face meetings

Financially relatively strong today

Until a half century banks have conducted business on the basis of physical distribution networks. The model has been challenged to progress towards electronic distribution. Banks have finally reached a stage where electronic distribution has matured and has proven it works, but this is enough for past. But to stay relevant in 21st century, it is time for the banks to enhance on these electronic platforms and take them to next level.

In the long term, technology resistant groups will disappear and hence bank should care about technology hooked customers.

Without ease of use, intuitiveness and relevance, no digital initiative can be a success with customers.

This is a testimony to the success of HDFC Bank’s digital products with customers. Aiming to be ???a completely customer-centric organization, the bank has been gearing itself up digitally for the past few years. Today, digital products have cemented themselves as customer’s choice of channel.

Demonetisation was a temporary setback for a business whose customers traditionally transact in cash. Your Bank was able to overcome this in the last quarter. Demonetisation and the advent of the next-generation of entrepreneurs has seen a steady shift towards digital transactions. The Bank launched a complete online solution-the ‘SM@Bank’. Through this, customers can access-credit facility information, request adhoc/temporary overdraft facilities, ask for new facilities and submit documents to the Bank for straight through processing on a 24*7 basis. This gained significant traction in the very first year and is now poised to gain further momentum. Within this segment, the Bank continued its approach of targeting the manufacturing, retailing, wholesale, trading, and services sectors.

HDFC bank has undertaken several initiatives to change the way the relationship works between the bank and customers. They have undertaken steps on lending, payments, transactions, communication, and data analyses as well as in-house, in terms of training employees to understand how banking works in the digital world. All of these offerings are meant to ease the way the customer interacts with the bank. They have been closely monitoring trends that have emerged in the fintech (financial technologies) and start-up space to keep looking for ideas how they can improve their offerings. They are working with a lot of fintech start-ups to bring in solutions that they can offer to customers. The impact of these initiatives is showing. Ten years ago, the share of Internet and mobile banking transactions [as a percentage of total transactions] stood at 13 percent. In FY13, it stood at 44 percent, in FY14, it was 55 percent. In FY15, the number was at 63 percent. Last fiscal, it has gone up to 71 percent. The share of branch transactions today has gone down to 11 percent. Last year, they launched the 10-second personal loan where pre-approved customers get funds credited into the bank accounts within 10 seconds of filling up their applications digitally. That was setting a benchmark of digital. They also introduced a recharge-on-missed-call feature that allows our customers to recharge their prepaid mobile phones in one go.

Mr. Puri’s vision and strategy have been the driving force behind the Bank’s foray into the world of ???Digital Banking resulting in the roll out of several digital banking products like EVA Webchat Bot, UPI, 10 - second loans, PayZapp, Chillr, etc. Bank has embarked on a ‘Mobile First’ digital strategy that builds on the last two decades of investment in technology.
