NURS 5323 Week 3 MSN Personal Clinical Objectives Assignment
Overview: From this submission, you need to develop anywhere from 3-4 personal objectives for clinicals that you will work to meet throughout the semester. As you log your clinical hours, you will need to document how those hours helped you to meet one or more of your personal objectives. You will evaluate your progress towards meeting these objectives throughout your clinical rotation. You will share these objectives with your preceptor so that they will know what your goals are.
Instructions: Please use the template below to type in your objectives. You do NOT need a title page or a reference page. Please submit in pdf or word format by the due date indicated on the course schedule.
**Use SMART format when writing your clinical objectives. Try to be as specific as you can be when writing your objectives. Ensure that your goal is measurable. Do not use terms such as “more comfortable” as you often cannot measure this. Your goal should be relevant to your clinical rotation and site and should be attainable. Make sure to include the time frame for achievement. Make sure your objectives are clearly distinct from one another and do not overlap**
Example: By the third week of the clinical rotation, I will be able to independently interpret at least 3 treadmill stress tests without the assistance of my preceptor.
This assignment will help you meet the following: AACN Essentials (2022): Domains 2, 6, 9, 10; AACN MSN Essentials (2011): II, VII, IX; NONPF NP Core and Population-Focused Competencies (2012;2017): Leadership and Independent Practice.

A 6-month-old male infant is brought to your office by his mother for a routine well-child visit. His mother is concerned that he is not yet saying “mama,” because her best friend’s baby said “mama” by age 6 months. Your patient was born via an uncomplicated pregnancy to a 23-year-old G1 P1 mother. He was delivered by a spontaneous vaginal delivery at full term and there were no complications in the neonatal period. You have been following him since his birth.
He has had appropriate immunizations. He had one upper respiratory infection at 5 months that was treated symptomatically. There is no family history of any developmental, hearing, or speech disorders. He has been fed since birth with iron-fortified infant formula. Cereals and other baby foods were added starting at age 4 months. He lives with both parents, neither of whom smokes cigarettes.
On exam, he is a vigorous infant who is at the 50th percentile for length and weight and 75th percentile for head circumference. His physical examination is normal. On developmental examination, he is seen to sit for a short period of time without support, reach out with one hand for your examining light, pick up a Cheerio with a raking grasp and put it in his mouth, and he is noted to babble frequently.
Answer questions 1- 5 using course resources and at least one additional scholarly resource found outside the course resources.

Deliverable Instructions:
Overview: From this submission, you need to evaluate your progress towards meeting the objectives you submitted previously. Have you met the objectives? Do you realize the objective is not relevant or unattainable? If you have met the objectives, do you have new ones? Do you need to revise the objectives? Remember, as you log your clinical hours, you will need to document how those hours helped you to meet one or more of your personal clinical objectives.
Instructions: Please use the template below to fill in your updates. Make sure to include your original personal clinical objective created earlier in the semester. Type your updates directly underneath your stated objective. You must address each objective – whether it has been met or your progress towards meeting it. Discuss specific patient cases (1-2 cases) as examples to justify that the objective was met. You do NOT need a title page or a reference page. Please submit in pdf or word format by the due date indicated on the course schedule.
**Use SMART format when writing your clinical objectives. Try to be as specific as you can be when writing your objectives. Ensure that your goal is measurable. Your goal should be relevant to your clinical rotation and site and should be attainable. **
Example: By the end of this clinical rotation, I will be able to independently interpret at least 3 treadmill-stress tests.
I have completed 5 treadmill-stress tests but was only able to interpret 1 without the assistance of my preceptor. My preceptor made plans to give me a few stress EKGs that have been completed for me to practice some more. The clinic does about 4 -5 treadmill stress test per day, so I am confident that I can achieve this goal by the end of my clinical rotation.

DateHoursTotal Hours at SitePreceptor SignatureOverview: The purpose of the clinical update assignment is to thoroughly reflect on your time spent during your clinical rotation. This reflection should be consistent and ongoing throughout your clinical rotation. The clinical update assignment allows for you and your clinical faculty/preceptor to address both positive experiences and concerns encountered during the clinical rotation.
In the assignment, the student will reflect on their personal clinical objectives created at the beginning of the semester and evaluate their progress towards achieving the objectives. The Clinical Update helps ensure the student is on track in documenting their clinical hours and clinical case logs in Typhon. The assignment helps to facilitate communication between the student, clinical faculty, and preceptor.
Instructions: The assignment has four components:
1. Grad CPAT Student Reflection Form (Clinical Update #1)
Students will check competencies that have been accomplished thus far in the current clinical rotation. Only mark the actions that apply. Students must make comments under each Domain showing deep reflection on how these competencies have been met or are in progress. You assign a self-score for each Domain.
Scoring Scale: (1) Failing; does not meet standards; requires constant guidance (2) Needs Improvement; requires intensive guidance (3) Satisfactory with direction (4) Meets Expectations with Assistance (5) Exceeds Expectations with Minimal Assistance.
Remember that the quality of your clinical performance as you describe in detail in the “Student Comments” determines your grade. It is not necessary to check all of the actions listed to get higher grades. Grades are determined by the quality of your work and reflections in the “Student Comments” not by the number of items checked. You should provide concrete examples, especially if assigning a score of 1 or 5.
or
Clinical Update Form (Clinical Update #2)
Students will type answers to prompts directly on the form. Answers should be thorough and show deep reflection of the student’s clinical experience. Each prompt must be addressed.
2. MSN Personal Clinical Objectives Update
Students will use the template provided in the course to provide a thorough evaluation of their progress towards their personal clinical objectives. Student’s original personal clinical objective created earlier in the semester should be included and the student will type updates directly underneath your stated objective. Student will discuss specific patient cases (1-2 cases) as examples to justify that the objective was met. You do NOT need a title page or a reference page.
3. Typhon Update

New construction projects begin with a design phase, where architects blueprint the vision complete with design details. They work in collaboration with builders who use the designs to prepare the appropriate strategies, tools, and materials to bring the vision to reality. You are both architect and builder of your success. You have started to blueprint your vision in your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan. You have identified others with whom you will collaborate. Now you can begin to prepare the appropriate strategies, tools, and materials
How will you approach your studies? What types of resources are available to you, and how will you access and utilize them? Taking the opportunity to prepare these strategies, tools, and materials will help ensure you can “break ground” without incident and successfully move to the phase where you begin building your vision.

ATTENTION TO STUDYPOOL WRITER THIS IS ME SO YOU GET SOME IDEAS OF MY INTRODUCTION
Hi, again my name is Mario Carralero I have been married for 19 years, I have a 9 years old daughter, and a teen 17 years old boy. I have been a Registered Nurse for ten years and achieved my Bachelor degree five years ago. Even-though for many nurses ten years may seem as a regular average time of working experience in their lives, for me ten years is an invaluable time. Sometimes we used to say, ” the time flies away” and we do not appreciate it. However, in my case I feel blessed because those ten years transformed me in a better person as a whole, professionally, and sociologically.
I had the amazing opportunity of working in all bed side care areas and learn all different nursing skills. I did worked in Med-surge, Telemetry, and ICU. I have worked in the float pool of ICU going to all them MICU, SICU, CVICU, NSICU, and TICU settings wherever the need. At present I still do some ICU, but I am working full time in the Intervention Radiology. I grew up exponentially in my career, also it floating around allows me to create a great network throughout the hospital. I noticed my devotion for critical patients.
Finally, last two weeks I decided to start at once my plan on going back school. My continue relationship with nursing ICU has given me more insight into pursuing my MSN program in Acute Care Gerontology Advance Practitioner nurse. One day in the morning I opened my emails at my hospital and I saw the education department recommending to all nurses to complete their BSN and MSN programs at Walden University. I did my own researched on best online program around that meet my expectation to achieve my goal. As I further searched in the internet I saw again Walden University. I believe that Walden mission’s statement aligned with my need to progress further.
According to Walden, their mission is to “provide a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioner so that they can effect positive social change”( Walden University, 2019b.). Which defines my overall goal to become a Practitioner who “provide life long, comprehensive care through disease management, health education, and preventative health services” ( Nurse Journal, 2020, para. 2). Walden University for sure will leave a positive impact not only to me as professional but also to my family since this MSN online program is a perfect example of dedication and perseverance.
As I become an Acute Practitioner Nurse, I will convey more effectively the patient care to all levels of our society and different ethnic groups in collaboration with physicians. The communication between patient and professional will be more transparent regarding patient condition. Walden University (2019b) defined positive social changes as a”deliberate process of creating and applying ideas, strategies, and actions to promote the worth dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies” (para. 4).
I will be ready to create bigger and better solutions mainly for the health care industry. I see myself expanding my knowledge base here in Walden University, and hopefully improving the health disparity of minorities. I will work on making possible to provide medical care to all sectors of our community in needs of care. This aligns with Walden University’s view which is to promote a positive social change in the improvement of human and social conditions ( Walden University, 2020b).

The authors assert the need for further research to understand dementia on a grand scale. The article is relevant to the topic of interest since it also shows the limitations of the research.Craft a summary (2-3 paragraph) below that includes the following:
Identification and analysis of peer-reviewed research articles necessitate using an effective method and applying databases and search terms to locate relevant research sources. I started by going through the university library’s databases and publications in this situation. PubMed from the National Library of Medicine, CINHAL Comprehensive, and Web of Science were among them. I also concentrated on papers about Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment. The last step was to narrow my research findings using key terms and words such as “Alzheimer’s and dementia.”
After reading the abstract and full-text articles, I assessed the significance of the paper’s content. I also ensured that the publications I obtained were full-text articles to acquire all possible information, particularly the study’s limitations. The article was then assessed based on its relevance to the topic of interest. I also ensured that the articles were published within the last five years.
In research analysis, having successful strategies is critical. In this example, the aim was to have journal articles published by well-known and recognized institutions and researchers to increase their reputation and trustworthiness. Ensuring that the articles are listed in an online database like PubMed, overseen by the National Library of Medicine, was a vital element of the study. In the search, I also utilized keywords and concepts to find research publications and studies with relevant material on the topic of interest.
PubMed, particularly its online database, is a fantastic resource I plan to use to obtain peer-reviewed research study publications. This resource, managed by the National Library of Medicine, contains many peer-reviewed and full-text papers to help create enough information on their research topic and interest. Obtaining peer-reviewed research on any topic requires entering keywords relating to the issue into the database and filtering the results using the phrase “peer-reviewed.”
In every case, research analysis is a critical component of obtaining materials that address issues of interest to researchers. In this situation, the selected article demonstrates how nurses play an important role in assisting elderly patients with dementia and cognitive impairment. This study’s findings are reliable and valid, and they encourage practitioners to handle the issue in the most effective way possible to lessen the negative consequences of cognitive impairment on the elderly. More research can be conducted to improve the care given to older individuals.

Architect Daniel Libeskind is credited with saying “To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it.” The suggestion is that his work does not copy the efforts of others but relies on it.
Understanding the work of others is critically important to new work. Contributions to the nursing body of knowledge can happen when you are able to analyze and articulate the efforts of previous research. Research analysis skills are therefore critical tools for your toolbox.
In this Assignment, you will locate relevant existing research. You also will analyze this research using a tool helpful for analysis.

One of the requirements you must successfully complete for the Master of Science in Nursing is the Practicum(s). Everything you need to know about the Practicum requirements can be found in the Practicum Manual. It is important for you to be familiar with the Practicum Manual and the Practicum Requirements.
In preparation for the Practicum, you must identify your Preceptor(s), qualified nurses within a practicum site who are responsible for guiding students’ practicum experiences. There are specific qualifications for Preceptors. Once you find a person who is interested in serving as your Preceptor, you must also find out whether this individual meets the qualifications to serve as your preceptor. It is never too early to begin looking for a Preceptor.
For this Assignment, you will first login to Meditrek, the application the College of Nursing uses to track all Practicum information and documentation. You also will identify potential Preceptors and Practicum Sites and indicate when you plan to take the Practicum course(s) by completing the Practicum Plan in Meditrek.

In this module, we will discuss NURS 6003 Assignment Transition to Graduate Study. The retention of new nurses remains a challenge for most healthcare organizations. Approximately 75% of newly licensed registered nurses (NLRNs) resign their positions within the first year of employment due to transition shock from the academic resources setting to the practicum setting. Other reasons for resignation include lack of confidence, poor critical thinking skills, and feeling overwhelmed to provide quality patient care.
This loss of retention among NLRNs poses a significant threat to the delivery of quality and safe patient care. Nurses who assume the role of mentor to newly licensed nurses face many barriers to fulfilling their role effectively, including a lack of proper training or skills to perform this role, lack of time, and competing demands of being a mentor and providing patient care.
Therefore, the purpose of this doctoral project on the transition to graduate study for nursing was a development of an evidence-based staff education curriculum on mentoring for professional staff nurses in an acute care hospital in a southeastern state. The goal of the staff education project was to prepare nurses as mentors to assist the NLRN’s transition into practice. Patricia Benner’s theoretical model “from novice to expert” was the framework used in this project.
Sources of evidence included the collection of data obtained from peer-reviewed articles in the Cumulative Index to Nursing Allied Health Literature database, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and Patricia Benner’s novice to expert framework. This project promotes social change by offering a quality, evidence-based mentorship program to benefit all stakeholders of the organization through its implications for practice.

NURS 6003 Discussion: Strategies for Academic Portfolios
Nurse-scholars have a significant obligation to their community as well. Their work must have academic and professional integrity. Their efforts are designed to add to the body of knowledge, advance the profession, and ultimately help in the care of patients. Work that lacks integrity is subject to erode quickly or worse.
Fortunately, there are strategies and tools that can help ensure integrity in academic and professional work. This Assignment asks you to consider these tools and how you might apply them to your own work.
In this Assignment, you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by appending the original document you began in the previous assignment.
Using the Academic and Professional Success Development Template you began in Module 1, write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:
Expand on your thoughts from Section 1 by identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your:
Note: Add your work for this Assignment to the original document you began in the Module 1 Assignment, which was built from the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template.
By Day 7 of Week 3
Submit both Section 1 and Section 2 of Part 2.
Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.
Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.
To Prepare:
By Day 3 of Week 4
Post the following:
Using proper APA formatting, cite the peer-reviewed article you selected that pertains to your practice area and is of particular interest to you and identify the database that you used to search for the article. Explain any difficulties you experienced while searching for this article. Would this database be useful to your colleagues? Explain why or why not. Would you recommend this database? Explain why or why not.
By Day 6 of Week 4
Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ posts by offering suggestions/strategies for working with this database from your own experience, or offering ideas for using alternative resources.
The article that I chose was a review of a digital style of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in adolescents with depression. The article highlights the advantages and disadvantages of using digital CBT in adolescent therapy and its effect on depression treatment. (Ivlev et al., 2022). I chose this article because it is something that I plan on investigating closer during my studies to achieve my PMHNP. My interest in treatment is in the adolescent age group and the effects of mental health on their life as well as treatments that benefit them. The database I used to find this article was APA PsycInfo and EBSCOhost via the Walden University library resource.
When using APA PsycInfo and EBSCOhost I did not encounter any specific difficulties during my search. I think the only difficulties others may have is the amount of information on the topics searched. For instance, while I have used these types of resources before, it can sometimes be overwhelming to research topics because there are so many options to choose from. It may be difficult to comb through the amount of information given at one time. In an article by GreenBook, the writer explains that “professionals are now often overwhelmed with organizing the vast amounts of data they get” (GreenBook, 2022).
I believe that these databases would be extremely helpful to my colleagues. I recommend the use of the databases to anyone doing or involved with scholarly research. These scholarly search engines are filled with a plethora of information pertaining to anything. It can keep scholars up to date with the latest in research. As advanced practitioners, they can increase our knowledge of the latest treatments for patients and any developments in current treatments. By doing this, it can increase the quality of care given to the patient as well as maintain a higher level of knowledge to advance one’s practice. As a student, it is very beneficial to our success by providing quality information and credible sources (H, 2021).

Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? As nursing students, one of the essential skills you need to develop is the ability to locate and analyze evidence to support your ideas and arguments. The Library is an invaluable resource that can help you find credible and relevant sources to inform your scholarly writing. In this article, we will discuss how you can use it to locate evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing.
Throughout your degree program, you will use the research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use academic resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past.
For this Discussion, you explore the databases available. The first step to locate evidence is to identify the relevant resources. You can start by selecting the appropriate databases to search for your topic. The most relevant databases include CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PubMed. These databases are specifically designed to index and provide access to nursing and healthcare literature.
When searching for resources, use appropriate keywords and phrases related to your topic. For example, if you are researching the impact of exercise on mental health, you could use keywords such as “exercise,” “mental health,” “anxiety,” and “depression.” It’s also helpful to use Boolean operators such as “AND” and “OR” to refine your search and retrieve more targeted results.

Review the information presented in the Resources, search the databases, and evaluate online resources.
Begin searching for a peer-reviewed article that pertains to your area and is of particular interest to you.
Identify the database that you used to search for a peer-reviewed article of your interest.
Reflect on your experience with searching the database. Did you note any difficulties when searching for an article? What steps/strategies did you find helpful for locating a peer-reviewed article? Would this database be useful to your colleagues? Would you recommend this database?
Once you have selected your peer-reviewed article, evaluate its strengths and weaknesses in terms of scholarly writing, bias, opinion, quality of evidence, and appropriateness to its target audience.
BY DAY 3
Post a brief summary of your peer-reviewed article, the database you located your article in, your database searching experience, keywords utilized in the search, and an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the article.
Support your Discussion assignment with specific resources used in its preparation using APA style formatting. You are asked to provide a reference for all resources, including those in the Learning Resources for this course.
This week, you explore the Walden Library and consider the differences between peer-reviewed research evidence and non-peer-reviewed evidence. In addition, you continue your examination of effective scholarly writing as you analyze writing in terms of its purpose, audience, bias, and quality of evidence.
Decision-making in healthcare necessitates the use of evidence to inform thoughts and scholarly writing. I understand the role and relish the impact of an evidence-based approach to care on patients’ health outcomes and the healthcare system as a whole. As a registered nurse (RN), I am frequently confronted with multiple scenarios daily that require me to explore ideas, stimulate my thinking, and seek insights from people or scholarly articles.
The latter has proven to be extremely useful in my practice, and learning how to locate scholarly articles was most likely the source of my seamless practice. In keeping with the use of the Walden library, the following discussion provides an example of a database I frequently use, the difficulties I encounter, and whether or not I recommend the same databases to colleagues.
As an RN, I perform the duties outlined by the American Nurses Association. In addition, as a psychiatric mental health nursing practice enthusiast and aspiring psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), I care for adult patients with a variety of mental health care needs. I work as an RN at Wellpath South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center while also pursuing my MSN PMHNP program. In keeping with the clinical setting and my interests, I chose an article about caring for elderly patients who require mental health care. Flint et al. (2020) investigate the impact of Covid19 on the care of elderly patients.
The elderly population is growing as a result of (1) improved medical care for the elderly, which increases life expectancy, and (2) improved medical care for children and youth, which lowers mortality among that age group (WHO, 2021). Why is this population group important in my line of work? Older adults are at a higher risk of severe infection and death in the Covid19 era due to the likelihood of multiple comorbidities and waning immunity, as well as, to some extent, a lack of adequate social support (loneliness) and low financial support. It is my responsibility as an RN and PMHNP enthusiast to understand the population and design appropriate interventions to assist patients with mental health care needs.
I used the PubMed search engine to find the article. PubMed is a reputable medical and nursing database that contains over 34 million biomedical literature citations and abstracts (Frandsen et al., 2019). When I entered the keywords ‘ impact of Covid19 on mental healthcare’ into the PubMed search box, several articles appeared. In addition, I customized the year so that only articles published within the last five years (since 2018) appeared. The challenge I encountered was that there were several articles to choose from, and deciding on one, in particular, was difficult.
PubMed is a free resource for searching biomedical and life sciences literature. The primary goal of the literature search is to obtain information that can be used to improve global healthcare practice as well as personal practice (Tucker et al., 2021). Since medical and nursing practice relies heavily on evidence, the database is extremely beneficial to my colleagues. Furthermore, because healthcare professionals are obligated to improve patient health outcomes, I recommend the database to my colleagues to obtain credible information that will inform practice.

I decided to research covid survivors’ long-term symptoms. In doing this, I did a google search of Peer review Post Covid 19 long-term symptoms. There were multiple articles that were presented for this area. I selected an article from the National Library of Medicine (NIH). This website is well known for factual information. I choose this specific area since I am a family nurse practitioner that rounds in the hospital and 2 nursing homes. I see a lot of post-covid symptoms in the covid survivors. I am going to be using the “Long-Term Sequelae of COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of One-Year Follow-Up Studies on Post-COVID Symptoms” article for my peer-reviewed article during this assignment.
NIH’s database is a good place for any medical student to use in research. In reading about the NIH Peer Review process, applicants have to go through and pass two review boards to be granted money to start the applied research. The review board strives in promoting a fair and unbiased process. This is to ensure the highest quality of research in biomedical science. I believe this is a good site for articles due to the core values used in each selection of the researchers. The core values are “(1) expert assessment, (2) transparency, (3) impartiality, (4) fairness, (5) confidentiality, (6) security, (7) integrity, and (8) efficiency.” (NIH Peer Review: Grants and Cooperative Agreements 2019)

I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and writing, as well as the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics in my academic work while a student of the MSN program, as well as my professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results of these efforts are shared below.
Directions: In the space below, craft your analysis/writing sample, including Part 1 (The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity) and Part 2 (Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work).
In the space below, write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:
One of the most important principles in nursing is honesty, and it is imperative that this value be upheld in all situations. This is something that should come easily, and if you do it right, it will indicate that your nursing identity is genuine. The dedication of a learning institution to upholding academic standards guarantees that its students will receive an excellent education that will adequately equip them for rewarding professions in the disciplines in which they want to work (Bloomfield et al., 2021).
Maintaining one’s professionalism requires continually pushing oneself to become better, as well as adhering to a set of rigorous ethical rules. Students should get encouragement and assistance, satisfy their requirements, and be provided with the resources necessary for academic achievement. It is essential to make the classroom a place where everyone feels safe to speak openly and honestly, to create an environment devoid of cheating and unethical behavior, and to maintain that environment. Students should be honest in their writing and avoid any forms of cheating or unethical behavior.
To have imposed integrity in this field and to be able to set the standards for sustaining morality and ethics is a mark of respectability in any educational system across the world. Plagiarism and cheating are unacceptable forms of academic behavior, as they encourage dishonesty and a perverted approach to education (Ruddy & Ponte, 2019). It fails to appreciate the hard work of its subjects. There are no shortcuts through the learning process because it is so intricate. While discussing works of literature, it is essential to give credit where credit is due and to acknowledge the expertise of one’s teachers and advisors. It is crucial for the success of the institution and the quality of its education that all students maintain their academic integrity.
Both Grammarly and Turnitin contribute to academic integrity in various ways. Grammarly also has a free plagiarism detector to review your writing to see if anything has been stolen. Plagiarism can be detected in one’s work with the help of these programs; some of them will even underline the offending phrases and provide a link to the original source (Brown et al., 2019). In addition, by comparing submitted writing to other works in their database and on the web, the online tool Turnitin can assist in detecting and preventing plagiarism. When users generate an originality report, they can examine the matched sources and verify whether or not they were properly cited.
Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:
As a student in the MSN program, I have to maintain high levels of integrity and ethics in both my academic work and professional work. Keeping one’s word and doing one’s best are two ways to act with integrity and honesty. Building trusting relationships with others is essential for success in this line of work, so we should always do what we say we will do. In addition, Grammarly, Turnitin, and other paraphrasers are only two of several options for ensuring that students’ work is presented as their own and can be used to demonstrate its originality (Brown et al., 2019). Such websites serve as plagiarism checkers and are essential in limiting misconduct and unethical actions in academic writing.
Upholding one’s moral principles is essential in a nurse’s professional role. Nurses should put in their utmost effort to provide patients with the highest quality care possible. Better patient outcomes will result from caregivers who are trustworthy and who prioritize patient safety. Another approach to implementing this principle in nursing is to be courteous and helpful to everyone, regardless of their background or ability level (Haar et al., 2020). Treating your superiors, colleagues, and patients with the same respect will demonstrate your honesty and professionalism. Being truthful to yourself and other people is essential. Lastly, nurses should not take the chance of lying just because they are afraid the audience will not appreciate the truth, as this is considered unethical.

Post an explanation of at least two strategies for including academic activities and accomplishments into your professional development goals. Then
In this module, you begin laying the foundation for your academic and professional success. Your efforts begin with a vision that includes your own definition of success. Your vision may vary from those of your colleagues, but this does not mean you have to take these first steps alone.
Walden University and the College of Nursing also have a vision and mission, which include helping you to make your own vision a reality. Members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support teams, and fellow students, can also be helpful. Current practitioners and other member of the professional community can also help you to clarify your vision.
This Module’s Discussion asks you to consider how the Walden mission and vision as well as the College of Nursing’s mission and vision apply to your professional and academic goals. You will also begin to identify individuals and teams who can help you along the way as you begin designing the “blueprint”—your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision for academic and professional success. Finally, you will explain the importance of networking and how it can help you achieve your professional and academic goals.
Post a brief introduction of yourself to your colleagues. Include an explanation as to how Walden’s vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives relate to your professional and academic goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner. Also include an explanation for how the Walden MSN Program Outcomes and perspectives relate to your professional and academic goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner. Finally, explain why networking is important and how it may help you achieve your professional and academic goals.
Respond to at least two of your colleagues’ posts by suggesting additional individuals and/or teams with whom you wish to collaborate or by offering additional networking strategies.
My name is Yaa Wiafe. I am currently an ICU nurse and have been working in an ICU for many years now. I also have a master’s degree already, but I wanted to change to Acute care. When I first decided to further my education, I was torn between FNP and acute care. I decided on the FNP route initially, but since I am an ICU nurse, I later found that I am interested in the acute care route. Multiple schools came to mind when choosing a school to complete this goal. In the end, Walden stuck out more to me.
The mission, vision, and goals of Walden are pretty much self-explanatory, and these goals, vision, and mission aligned with my goals. Walden School of Nursing’s vision is for the graduate professionals to transform nursing services and the continuum of care to meet the needs of the local and global individuals in the communities (Walden University, 2022b). Diversity in healthcare is crucial, and being able to provide care for all is imperative.
I also found Walden’s program to be very flexible for me in becoming a great nurse practitioner. The Adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program has practical outcomes that can be applied within my professional goals and development. Advancing my career is very important to me, and choosing the right school is essential as well. Walden’s goals and outcome align with my desire to become the best advanced practitioner who can change the community.
While enrolled as a student in this program, I plan to commit myself to learning and applying new skills, acquiring more knowledge, and adapting various perspectives to identify practical problems at an individual, state, and national level (Walden University, 2022b). My plan to promote change is to continue acquiring all the knowledge, educating, and caring for everyone I come into contact with to improve the quality of care and health outcomes for the community.
Experts agree that the most connected people are often the most successful. When you invest in your relationships both professionally and personally, it can pay you back in dividends throughout the course of your career (Goolsby & Knestrick, 2020). Networking is important because it helps one develop and improve one’s skill set and stay on top.
One can meet mentors, clients and keep and gain access to resources that are important. Furthermore, connections that an individual makes broaden list of contacts that can keep you informed, refer you to job openings, suggest volunteer opportunities, nominate you for professional honors, or help you expand your leadership skills.
As a nurse, I come in contact with different people daily, and one thing that I have learned in my many years of nursing is that, the nursing world is very small. In all, one must always keep have a great attitude because you will never know whom you will need and meet in the long run. As I navigate this program, I will always network daily, especially during clinical rotations. I believe this will help me in the end.

My name is Mario Owens, FNP. I am from Loíza, Puerto Rico, and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. I currently work at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been an FNP for three years and want to continue my acute care nurse practitioner studies.
The vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives of Walden University will assist me in achieving my goals of medical mission work around the world. This small feat can lead to the betterment of the community.
I believe that advanced care providers will be the driving force to provide the social change lacking in today’s world. These values and teachings will allow me to continue being current on the latest advancements in healthcare and how healthcare has evolved to unbelievable heights. This can provide the change necessary to help protect our friends, families, communities, and world.
As of now, health disparities are one of the biggest problems I see in the news daily. This program can assist us in changing that narrative. The knowledge will be instrumental in the fight for equality for all. The need for information is critical to positive change so that our patients receive the correct information instead of reading misinformation that is not peer-reviewed.
This is crucial to prevent unnecessary deaths from occurring. We live in the era of social media, where anyone can post misinformation, which can spread in seconds. This is why the vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives must be so vital, and I hope to contribute in a positive way (Walden University).
The outcomes and values of Walden University can, have, and will continue to help create the change needed to help extend the lifespan and health of the community. The enrichment of knowledge will help elevate the healthcare system to greater heights. The teachings can lead me to increase my knowledge to help my patients with health and positive outcomes.
The world is evolving, and a solid foundation will prepare for that challenge. Cases are becoming more complex daily, and critical thinking is monumental to solving these cases head-on. These outcomes and values will assist me in bettering myself as a role model and a voice for change. I plan to use and apply these outcomes and values in my practice (Walden University).
Networking has more value than I could have ever imagined. This definitely hits home for me as I am an introvert. Luckily, I could meet some great people who were instrumental in helping me with my development as a provider. I cannot thank them enough. If I knew what I know now, I would be so much further, but experience is the best teacher. They continue to help me to this day. I can always ask them questions if I feel stuck or need advice. This also allows me to expand and volunteer.
Volunteering is so much fun. This allowed me to meet new friends and discuss and share stories about our journeys in healthcare. Networking allows you to learn and grow. It is incredible how much information one can learn. The books will provide you with a base, but the experience will take your learning to the next level.
Medicine is not an exact science because every case does not follow the book, and this is where critical thinking comes in. There have been many days where I needed my mentor to assist me with, and over time, I began to see things in a different light. Networking is an amazing tool for my growth. I am still learning, so hopefully, I will continue improving (Wofford, 2018).

When was the last time you read Meditation XVII of John Donne’s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions?
Unless you are a student of seventeenth-century poetry, you may not be all that familiar with this piece. However, you may be much more familiar with one of its well-known phrases: “No man is an island…”.
As you begin your journey toward achieving your academic and professional goals, you have a great opportunity to network with academics and professionals who can help ensure you do not travel alone. This network can help to clarify your own vision for success and can help guide you now and in the future. To paraphrase Donne, no one is an island.
Begin creating an academic and professional network by identifying which academic and professional connections and resources with which you need to collaborate to succeed in your MSN program and as a practicing nurse.

Matyas, N., Keser Aschenberger, F., Wagner, G., Teufer, B., Auer, S., Gisinger, C., Kil, M., Klerings, I., & Gartlehner, G. (2019). Continuing education for the prevention of mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s-type dementia: a systematic review and overview of systematic reviews. BMJ Open, 9(7), e027719. https://doi.org/10.1136/bmjopen-2018-027719
Dementia and other cognitive impairment disorders are an area of interest to me as a nursing practitioner. I have been deeply moved by this condition’s significant impact on patients and their families while caring for older people. Alzheimer’s disease is a debilitating and degenerative neurological condition that threatens patients’ cognitive and physical well-being and causes major emotional and physical distress to caregivers.
Nurses play a critical role in delivering compassionate, specialized care to Alzheimer’s patients, promoting their dignity, comfort, and quality of life while providing much-needed support and education to family members through the difficult caregiving journey. This article from PubMed has provided me with much-needed knowledge about preventing cognitive impairment, which I will apply in practice to improve results for this vulnerable demographic.
PubMed is a database with many papers from various fields of medicine, which gives it an advantage in terms of the amount of material available but can also make searching difficult for users. The key challenge is creating relevant search queries and filters to locate the relevant article. Multiple variations of the same article appear with each search, so necessary skills are required to obtain a quality article. Seeking advice from librarians and watching tutorials on utilizing search databases simplifies the search. One must also be familiar with the ever-changing features of PubMed.
My nursing colleagues and anyone interested in peer-reviewed healthcare papers would benefit greatly from the PubMed database. Because of its extensive collection of peer-reviewed publications in healthcare, this database is an excellent resource for nurses. PubMed gives healthcare practitioners quick access to up-to-date information, evidence-based practice, and the most recent breakthroughs in healthcare, allowing them to keep up with quickly changing medical knowledge. Nurses can also use PubMed to conduct literature reviews in research to improve patient care through well-informed clinical decisions.
I would strongly suggest PubMed to healthcare practitioners. The database contains a large and diversified collection of peer-reviewed publications spanning many medical specialties, particularly nursing, making it an excellent resource for staying up to date on the newest developments in healthcare. PubMed’s user-friendly design and advanced search features allow users to personalize their searches to specific research interests, ensuring they find relevant, high-quality literature as quickly as possible.
PubMed is well-known for its dedication to evidence-based medicine. It features an abundance of clinical trials and systematic reviews to help healthcare practitioners make informed judgments about patient care. The extensive database also aids in disseminating research findings, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing throughout the medical community.
PubMed also includes other National Library of Medicine resources, such as MEDLINE, strengthening its reputation as a reliable and authoritative source. As a result, this database is a vital resource for anyone looking for trustworthy, peer-reviewed medical literature and an essential recommendation for all individuals involved in medical research or practice.
The article that I chose was a review of a digital style of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in adolescents with depression. The article highlights the advantages and disadvantages of using digital CBT in adolescent therapy and its effect on depression treatment (Ivlev et al., 2022).
As a student, it is very beneficial to our success by providing quality information and credible sources (Woodlawn, 2021).

Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
The healthcare program of interest is MyChart by EPIC. The program is a free service that helps organize and store patient information while allowing them to access their healthcare data. The facility’s money is spent on storing and securing the data because cybersecurity is a major issue in healthcare programs handling patient care information. Hospitals nationwide have progressively stored data in the MyChart program, which is free. The hospitals also use MyChart for messaging services in the program. The program has become a significant source of income from video and message e-visits, reimbursed by public insurance (Raman et al., 2021). The telehealth revenues from the program are projected to rise by 90% in the next financial year.
Who is your target population?
The program’s target population is all patients and their family members in inpatient and outpatient departments and healthcare providers. Patients of all ages and cultural backgrounds can access MyChart account connected to the hospital database, which helps them access their health information, telehealth services, and other health services, including risk assessment (Zylla et al., 2020).
What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
The healthcare program requires the nurses’ input in determining the type of services that can be offered online in the e-visits. Nurses can also provide vital perspectives on the program’s location, given that they are the primary users of these programs. Nurses also influence the templates/standardized terminologies used in the program for effective information sharing and collection. Standardized nursing terminologies include assessment tools, and they help ensure
What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
The nurses’ significant roles in advocating for the target population for this healthcare program include ensuring the safety, privacy, confidentiality, and security of their health information. My role is to ensure patients have access to vital information and services in the program. As an educator, I educate patients on the sig nuisance and use of the program. I also play a role in determining the hospital’s patient services. Nurses are also familiar with HITECH and HIPAA regulations and can provide vital perspectives contributing to security measures in these healthcare programs.
What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?
Nurses constitute a significant part of the healthcare program’s implementation. They execute the primary functions such as answering patient questions and overseeing telehealth video conferences. They also coordinate the implementation efforts. Nurses also educate patients on utilizing these programs for better health outcomes. In design, nurses influence how the programs will look and their functions, while in the implementation, they help facilitate the program’s use. For example, nurses play a vital role in designing templates to use in the program, such as the health assessment forms and patient health information presentation format. In the program’s implementation, nurses can help educate other nurses and patients on using these standardized terminologies. Thus, nurses play vital roles in designing and implementing healthcare programs.
Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe is most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?
The healthcare team members significant to the program’s implementation are the healthcare informaticists, nurses, doctors, and healthcare technicians/engineers. Healthcare engineers are focused on the program’s functionality, including accessibility, security, and maintenance of devices and an internet connection to facilitate it. The informaticists are professionals responsible for overseeing the program, collecting, and disseminating data. They are significant to the development and improvement of the healthcare problem. Nurses and physicians must execute healthcare interventions, such as consultation, which are the reason behind the program’s development.

As their names imply, the honeyguide bird and the honey badger both share an affinity for honey. Honeyguide birds specialize in finding beehives but struggle to access the honey within. Honey badgers are well-equipped to raid beehives but cannot always find them. However, these two honey-loving species have learned to collaborate on an effective means to meet their objectives. The honeyguide bird guides honey badgers to newly discovered hives. Once the honey badger has ransacked the hive, the honey guide bird safely enters to enjoy the leftover honey.
Much like honeyguide birds and honey badgers, nurses and health professionals from other specialty areas can—and should—collaborate to design effective programs. Nurses bring specialties to the table that make them natural partners to professionals with different specialties. When nurses take the requisite leadership in becoming involved throughout the healthcare system, these partnerships can better design and deliver highly effective programs that meet objectives.
In this Assignment, you will practice this type of leadership by advocating for a healthcare program. Equally as important, you will advocate for a collaborative role of the nurse in the design and implementation of this program. To do this, assume you are preparing to be interviewed by a professional organization/publication regarding your thoughts on the role of the nurse in the design and implementation of new healthcare programs.

The Assignment: (2–4 pages)
In a 2- to 4-page paper, create an interview transcript of your responses to the following interview questions:
The Care at Home (CAH) Medicaid waiver program will be a state-run community-based program that allow severely disabled children to access home care and healthcare coverage within the community. The waiver program is based on the proposition that children with disabilities should have a proper support to enable them to become active participants in determining their future. The waiver program is a federally approved deferral of the Medicaid rules to enable disabled children to remain home and still benefit from the Medicaid coverage (Yingling et al, 2019).
Typically, such a waiver program disregards the guardian’s or parent’s resources and income when determining the eligibility for the means-tested program. This allows parents to benefit from services that they would otherwise not benefit from due to their low-income levels. The program the program is funded with a mix of both state and federal dollars and overseen by the state health agency. It allows physically disabled children to remain with their families at home while receiving healthcare, nursing and vehicle and home modifications.
This program benefits families that struggle with meeting their healthcare costs: drug coverage for disabled children and uncovered therapies. It especially targets autistic children and at-risk infants because of their low survival rates.
The program spans from financing home care for children with disabilities to ensuring an adaptive, healthy and safe home environment for the children. As such, nurses are directly involved in ensuring safety and wellbeing of the beneficiaries by designing their living environment and ensuring those environments respond to each child’s unique disabilities.
Depending on the child’s specific needs, the nurse is responsible not only for care delivery but also for home modification. Considering home modification may be overwhelming to some families, the nurses are directly involved in advising on the necessary changes that parents or guidance need to make within the home environment to guarantee safety and wellbeing of the beneficiary children.
Key to the nurses’ role is ensuring that the home environment is accessible so that those using wheelchair can easily and safely get in and out of the rooms. The nurse would then present these environment modification requirements to the program design committee to justify the waiver and support other crucial decisions regarding the program. For instance, disabled children whose home environment require more modifications are prioritized as beneficiaries compared to those whose home environment require lesser modification. The idea is that those who require more home modification would need more resources, and are therefore eligible for the program’s support.
The nurse also plays a key role in designing the respite component of the program. Because respite is provided at home by the nurses or other healthcare professionals, these caregivers will help in design the schedule for respite services as well as the resources required for those services. Typically, the respite services relieve families from the challenges associated with care or deliver the care when the families are not around.
Because the nurse services are the most needed and most difficult to access as a result of the shortage of nurses (Mar? et al 2019), nurses’ input is required in terms of designing the care shifts depending on the needs of each beneficiary. More importantly, the nurses will play a significant role in the program evaluation stages, where they provide feedback to the program advisory committee on the program’s impact and any points for improvement.
Information is a key resource for advocates; they need to have facts about the program and how it addresses the children’s special needs. Typically, the advocate is responsible for knowing the when, how, who and where about the program; documenting the information and using them as references during the program design process. Similarly, the advocate must be extremely aware of the special needs involved, including the relevant federal laws so that they can inform the program design process form a legal standpoint.
The advocate is also responsible for liaison between parents and the service providers. They are responsible for ensuring that there is a good relationship between the caregivers and the parents because sometimes it is easier for the two set of individuals to fall into a blame game whenever something is not right. Therefore, it is the advocate’s role to ensure that the disappointments and bureaucracies involved in the program does not impede the relationship between the program managers, caregivers and parents. They are the program’s vision keepers and are responsible for advocating for meeting the kid’s needs regardless of the bureaucracies involved.
Community health nurses’ role in implementing the program spans from protecting, promoting and preserving the children’s health. As per Barbero et al (2021), their roles are based on various fundamental principles including educating patients on making healthy choices and maintaining healthy lifestyles and providing direct care. the nurses primarily focus on delivering the children’s health needs. They coordinate with physicians and other health workers to ensure the children receive care that is equally as good as what they would receive in the hospital.
When they make home visits, they assess the children’s health conditions, deliver wound care, check vital signs (e.g. blood pressure) and manage prescription medicine when a child needs it. Furthermore, they are responsible for educating families and other community members on maintaining the children’s health and wellbeing (Assefa et al, 2019). Nurses also act as the gatekeepers for the children’s rights and protection, primarily protecting them from child abuse, sexual harassment, poor nutrition and teen pregnancy.
These roles are different from their program design roles in many senses. For instance, their program design roles involve identifying when to visit each home and how long they should take in each home. Contrastingly, the implementation role involves determining what they do in every visit, including conducting medical checks on the patients. In short, program design mainly entails the where, how and when the services are delivered, while program implementation roles entail what services are delivered and by who.
Medicaid senior leaders are important in the implementation process because they must communicate with the service providers about the program’s success and areas of improvement. According to Schwartz et al (2018), keeping the Medicaid senior leadership will help manage expectations and enhance the leader’s support. Other state agencies may also be important in the implementation process. This is especially for the purpose of gaining feedback and identifying any potential partnership benefits between the care management team and the program (Assefa et al, 2019). For example, the state’s Department of Health Disability Program might need to partner with the program managers in exploring other opportunities for enhancing the program.
The providers should also be involved in the implementation stage to ensure they buy in the idea. This can be done by forming provider advisory groups or board that provide feedback on the program strategies, guidelines and measures (Barbero et al, 2021). They may also help in developing quality improvement goals based on reported performance.

Over time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has involved different health stakeholders in evaluating health programs since evaluation enhances achieving the desired outcomes. Weight Loss Program is one of the health programs that has been subjected to several evaluations to ensure that individuals lose exercise weight.
The program focuses on human behavior, such as eating habits that can help one lose excess body weight. More than 95% of Americans have achieved their weight targets after the weight loss program has been evaluated regularly (Guan et al., 2018). In this context, the objective of this discussion is to assess weight loss program evaluation in the state of Illinois.
Evaluating the weight loss program in Illinois State has improved individuals’ health as many people have lost excess weight. There is overwhelming evidence that different health care, such as Northwestern Memorial Hospital, have recorded few cases of excessive body weight complications.
Obesity is one of the diseases associated with excess weight, and it is evident that few Illinois people have been diagnosed with the disease (Hendrie et al., 2020). Before program evaluation was carried out, hospitals in Illinois received many patients suffering from excessive weight complications. Osteoarthritis and Coronary heart attacks are some of the common diseases that affected people of Illinois before the weight loss program was initiated.
All healthcare organizations in Illinois have recorded low patient outcomes since most individuals are keen on their diet and physical exercise that generally supports health. Health records showing low patient outcomes clearly indicate that the program evaluation was successful. Also, the program was successful because the evaluation was conducted at the initial implementation stage, which is easy to make adjustments.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, most health program evaluations are successful because they are conducted at the initial stages of implementation, allowing stakeholders to make necessary adjustments for the easy achievement of desired goals (Hendrie et al., 2020). With these records, it is evident that approximately 90% of the population of Illinois was reached out and informed about the program evaluation.
The program evaluation used both qualitative and quantitative data as they enhanced effectiveness. Qualitative data was the patients’ records who had suffered from overweight diseases. In contrast, the quantitative data compared the patient outcomes in different health before the evaluation and after the assessment. It is important to note that deploying both qualitative and quantitative any health-related program evaluation enhances quality outcomes since the evaluation captures all factors likely to affect the program.
The weight loss evaluation program involved several stakeholders from within Illinois. Healthcare providers, policymakers, patients, and funding agencies were the stakeholders. Patients and funding agencies are the most beneficiaries of this program for the following reasons: the program helped the patients understand the meals to consume to cut weight and different physical exercises that helped them lose excess weight.
For example, losing weight is of great significance to patients since it helps them avoid chronic diseases such as obesity. In other words, patients would lead a healthy life because of this program. Funding agencies are also the most beneficiaries of this program since they will make huge profits since all set goals are achieved. For instance, the health care department will likely give other programs the funding agencies to run, thus making huge profits.
All the original intended objectives were achieved because the health of the people of Illinois improved. After people lost excess weight, healthcare organizations in Illinois recorded a low number of patients with overweight-related health complications. After program evaluation, a survey was also conducted to check whether program objectives were achieved. The survey found that less than 2% of the Illinois population was overweight (Thorning et al., 2018). This shows that most of the population is healthy, and thus, the program objectives were achieved. The program achieved all the set objectives because of the effective stakeholders and strategies that were used.
I would highly recommend this program to my workplace because it enhances the achievement of all desired goals. The program would be beneficial to both individuals and organizations because employees will be in a position to achieve their personal goals, and at the same time, the organization will also achieve its goals.
As a nurse advocate, I could be involved in the program after implementation by taking part in the survey to check the effectiveness of the program. Secondly, I could involve myself in the program by forming alternative policies integrated into pre-existing policies to achieve the desired outcomes.
Illinois is one of the states that conducted weight loss program evaluations to improve the health and well-being of its residents. The program involved different stakeholders who ensured that the program achieved all its objectives. Patient outcome was used as a measure of success. The program deployed both qualitative and quantitative data for quality purposes. I would recommend this program as it enhances the achievement of both individual and organizational goals.

Program/policy evaluation is a valuable tool that can help strengthen the quality of programs/policies and improve outcomes for the populations they serve. Program/policy evaluation answers basic questions about program/policy effectiveness. It involves collecting and analyzing information about program/policy activities, characteristics, and outcomes. This information can be used to ultimately improve program services or policy initiatives.
Nurses can play a very important role assessing program/policy evaluation for the same reasons that they can be so important to program/policy design. Nurses bring expertise and patient advocacy that can add significant insight and impact. In this Assignment, you will practice applying this expertise and insight by selecting an existing healthcare program or policy evaluation and reflecting on the criteria used to measure the effectiveness of the program/policy.

Health policy and politics: A nurse’s guide (6th ed.). Jones & Bartlett Learning
As a nurse, how often have you thought to yourself, If I had anything to do about it, things would work a little differently? Increasingly, nurses are beginning to realize that they do, in fact, have a role and a voice.
Many nurses encounter daily experiences that motivate them to take on an advocacy role in hopes of impacting policies, laws, or regulations that impact healthcare issues of interest. Of course, doing so means entering the less familiar world of policy and politics. While many nurses do not initially feel prepared to operate in this space effectively, the reward is the opportunity to shape and influence future health policy.

The healthcare system is intricate and fraught with problems; several proposals are in the works to address these challenges. Hundreds of bills have been proposed at the federal and state levels. Most People rank healthcare as their top economic concern, highlighting the urgent need for accessible, affordable healthcare options (Singer et al., 2019). As part of the Health Care Affordability Act of 2019, it is suggested that the patient be provided with comprehensive cost information and other relevant financial data.
Many have been unable to afford their medical bills due to the astronomical costs involved since accurate pricing information on medications has not been easily accessible prior to treatment (Keehan et al., 2020). The law also mandates that all parties involved in a healthcare transaction, including the healthcare provider, the patient, and any insurance companies, should all collaborate to ensure the delivery of quality care.
Health-related Bill NameHealth Care Affordability Act of 2019 Bill NumberH.R. 1868DescriptionThe Health Care Affordability Act of 2019, or House Resolution 1868 (H.R. 1868), was introduced during the 116th Congress (2019-2020) in the United States of America with the goal of helping people get access to high-quality healthcare at a price they can afford. It does this by modifying the tax credit for low-income earners and cutting healthcare costs.Federal or State?FederalLegislative IntentHouse Resolution 1868’s Section 2 states that the law was created to help low-income taxpayers whose family income falls within a certain range obtain health insurance at an affordable price (Galvani et al., 2020). It suggests changing the current tax code from 1986. The Illinois representative Lauren Underwood presented H.R. 1868 with the support of 39 other representatives.Proponents/ OpponentsProponents:Representative Underwood, LaurenOpponents:Government.Target PopulationThe bill aims to ensure that all Americans, including those from low-income families, have access to high-quality healthcare at a price they can afford (Martin et al., 2021). The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 34 million Americans were poor in 2019. This subset of the U.S. population is highlighted by these numbers and represents the primary focus of the legislation.Status of the bill (Is it in hearings or committees?)The Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives is now responsible for considering the legislation; the sponsors must decide what steps to take next. General Notes/Comments The patient should be provided with full-cost data and other relevant financial information, as proposed in the bill. Guaranteeing universal access to affordable, high-quality healthcare requires the passage of laws aimed at addressing current barriers to providing it (Galvani et al., 2020). However, after these regulations are approved, it is crucial to ensure they are strictly adhered to and fully executed.I advocate for this healthcare bill for many reasons. As someone planning a career in healthcare, I believe that everyone should have access to high-quality medical care, regardless of their financial situation. I am confident this legislation will go a long way toward supporting the global community in realizing Sustainable Development Goal no. Three as set forth by the United Nations. At its core, nursing is about developing caring relationships with patients. Its primary purpose is to guarantee access to medical care for all people. I will be delighted if this law can make it through the House and Senate.
Policymakers in this country should make the provision of compassionate care, leadership, and service their top priority. The well-being and ease of the American people must take precedence over anything else. Maybe other things will emerge in their place. Opponents of this bill need to understand that health, comfort, and safety cannot be sacrificed in the name of economics (Butkus et al., 2020). I appreciate the lawmakers’ initiative in seeking out this kind of legislation, which will undoubtedly solve the difficulties of more than 34 million Americans.
To ensure everyone has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, more bills seeking to do so should be introduced to Congress. It is also important to suggest amendments to current laws and resolutions if this would give a voice to the country’s underprivileged people. Finally, this measure is a call to action for our nation’s policymakers to consider, embrace, and pass it so that current and future generations of Americans can benefit.
The proposed Health Care Affordability Act of 2019 bill aims to ensure that all citizens in America have access to quality care regardless of their financial status. The bill aims at regulating taxes in the nation to ensure low-income earners are favored regarding healthcare. Providing quality care is fundamental to all people, which will help the nation achieve the sustainable development goals laid down by United Nations. I highly advocate for this bill in my nursing profession because I would be happy to see my patients receive quality patient care despite their financial status. The implementation of such beneficial bills in healthcare should be prioritized to ensure the delivery of quality and patient care.
