Demonetization was a process adopted by the the govt to eliminate many issue which have been challenging the governance since time immemorial like black money, funding for terrorism and counterfeiting of fake currency. By adopting such sudden and quick step of declaring Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes as illegal, govt thought to eliminate these obstacles. Various short term, medium and long term advantages were expected out of this.

Demonetization, a drive to curb black money from the economy was partially successful and partially not. The brighter side of the coin of demonetization consists of:

1. DIGITIZATION: People of India responded quickly to the change and in a few days later various online metods like e wallet and m wallets, private players like Paytm, along with govt. systems like Rupay, BBPS,et Paytm were used frequently.

Government has expected such things to happen but some of its expectations backfired like fake currencies have started to creep into the economy, which shows that the new currency security features have been compromised. Key reasons for the rise of fake currency are so many ;Poor border patrolling, which has led to the rise of fake currency smuggled from Pakistan and Bangladesh,Corruption among the public officials which has led to the easy distribution, storage and printing of fake currencieies,Easy access to cash and increasing the withdrawal limits,people involved in printing fake currency got enough time after 8th nov to start printing again,political funding requires huge amount of money so in such case, fake currency can easily enter into circulation,funds from various terror activities like naxalism,terrorism or cross border smuggling ,drug or human trafficking across the borders,funding of various NGO's, money from tax havens or P-notes and Lack of awarness about the security features of the new currency among the masses.

Poor people were used by the rich to deposit money in their accounts, thus, the rich avoided penalty and were able to retain their undeclared income.there was UNCHECKED OVERSEAS BLACK MONEY because the Black money kept in foreign tax havens, in the form of gold couldn't be tapped. Moreover there is a big setback for the international standing of the Indian economy. If we look at the farm sector in rural areas, we see that farmers generally use cash in most of their dealings and India is also largely a cash economy. The cash transactions in this rural economy are far higher than the total number of electronic transactions done on a daily basis.moreover, in tribal areas the poor people through middlemen are getting their currencies exchanged at higher rates due to information unavailibity and helplessness

Demotisation though has become a hot issue in debate with regards to effect on domestic economy. However, in current era of globalization, domestic policies of a nation has domino effect on other economies .

Nepal – Most affected: Transacts daily with India in INR for its necessary supplies, and shortage of new currency has caused shortage of essential commodities and affected Indo-Nepal trade .Also needs INR for international exchange to other currencies, but have banned all financial transactions in Indian rupees and termed new notes as “unauthorised and illegal”. Lack of reliable information -> Nepal Government is not sure of the amount of INR currency its citizens hold (esp. in informal areas) and to exchange them would be an ardent task in short term (As per Nepali Rashtra Bank ~ INR 35 mn in 500 and 1000 rupee notes are present within its formal financial network. Security concerns were also there as RBI was reluctant to freely provide currency due to possibility of their unscrupulous usage (terrorism – used by ISI, black money generation)

Bhutan – Not much affected. Bhutanese currency is pegged with Indian currency at 1:1, and Indian currency is legally tradable in Bhutan, and Bhutanese Central Bank offers currency at least hassle without much hoarding (also better synergy with RBI, Govt.), still short term shortage would occur. In short term, demonetization would definitely affect the broader economy of nieghbourhood nations to some extent, and the move is also seen as against the principles of ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. Also, Govt. in these nations would now would be cautious regarding freely trading in INR, and instead may push for use of their own currencies.

One of the main objectives behind the demonitisation move was to counter the menace of fake currency which was plaguing the country's economy and was used for terror financing. Key steps taken to address the issue:

Since cash availability was limited hence many businesses, traders, shop keepers started accepting cheques, payment through e-wallet and credit/debit cards. People were educated to learn technology for transactions. This could happen as people were not having any other option left.

As we all know that it was a liquidity shock , thus; created a situation where lack of currency jams consumption, investment, production, growth, employment etc. The intensity of demonetization effects depends upon the liquidity shocks and their duration in the economy. In the long run, a move away from the use of cash is the surest way of curbing the black economy. Less cash economy can happen with shift in payment patterns. There was certainly evidence that the number of electronic transactions went up. But after the money supply started coming back, those get reduced. Whether Indians have changed the way they make payments is still questionable. Undoubtedly, the steps taken have widely affected our economy world bank, IMF, ADB and and many agencies predicted decline in production, so do in exports. foreign investors become reluctant to invest for a while. Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, written during the period of boiling tumult that was to erupt into the Civil War, has struck it's readers in more ways than one. No doubt envisioning her mother readers, Stowe appeals to the sentiments evoked by motherhood to present slavery as, among other things, a violation of a woman's "divine and inherent duty" to herself, her children and her nation. This violation, as Stowe shows, in accordance with popular views of motherhood, can only lead to a population that is brutal, selfish, disobedient and unsympathetic.

Mrs. Lydia Sigourney is the author of "Letters to Mothers," an encompassing view of 19th century motherhood. Sigourney's views were both popular and respected at the time of Stowe's novel. At a time when children were beginning to live longer and childhood experiences and learning became more important, the duties and privileges of motherhood expanded. Letter I of Mrs. Sigourney's publication outlines these privileges and duties. Sigourney encourages women to mold the "unformed character of their infants" (1). Only through a mother's good influence, was it believed, could a child be able to develop into an intelligent and conscientious person.

One may imagine the 19th century mother's shock and scorn at the system which could allow this to happen.

Mothers of the time were lead to believe that their duties were so great, and even divine, that denial of them was both inherently wrong and detrimental to the child and society. Topsy's mother, having been denied the right to raise her and even to feel her child's love, is most pitiful. Motherhood was popularized as both a duty and a privilege thought to emanate from a "Divine Source." Sigourney goes back to ancient times to suggest that motherhood is the most natural occurrence and even holds to the terribly mistaken notion that being a mother is the most a woman can hope to be. She sites the dignity involved and compares it to "trifling amusements and selfish pleasures" which she feels only motherhood can lead away from. Motherhood was not only one of the few things socially acceptable for a woman to be employed at, but was also dignified and extremely important. Knowing a mother's pain in losing a child, Stowe shows the pain wrought from a child being sold as equal, if not worse, than their death.

Topsy, having been denied the love of a mother is selfish and thievish and we are told that there are many others like her. Not only is this meant to be sad as it draws us into sympathy for slave mothers and children, but it also is meant to lead us to think of the slave problem in society. Instead of motherly love, many slaves were educated in "barbarism and brutality" (391). This problem is important to the North and South. Without refined sympathies in his slaves, a slaveholder can not hope to control them. The thought of this would have alerted northerners also. Even abolitionists wouldn't have been happy with the thought of brute slaves killing their owners and escaping North. Sigourney writes of insubordination becoming a "prominent feature" in many cities and imparts upon her readers the need for "obedience - to be inculcated with increased energy, by those who have the earliest access to the mind."

Unfortunately slavery many times does not permit this to be the case. The injustice Stowe shows here is a violation of motherhood as understood by her first readers. One small paragraph in the book stands out as very moving. In this paragraph McCourt explains his view of his childhood. He says, When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I managed to survive at all. It was, of course, a miserable childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while.

Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood." This paragraph not only gives his perception of growing up poor, Catholic and Irish, but also gives a little background on his general view of life from a childs eyes.

In today’s society, it is easier to tell if someone has a psychological disorder because of all of the research that has been done throughout the past few years. One way to tell if someone has a psychological disorder is by paying attention to the symptoms and signs. Each disorder will have many different symptoms that differentiate them from each other. By paying close attention, people are able to tell what specific psychological disorder someone is battling. It is best to let a doctor officially diagnose someone with the correct psychological disorder. If a person is thought to have a mental disorder, anyone can unofficially diagnose them.

In the movie “To The Bone,” the main fictional character is named Eli, originally called Ellen. In the beginning, it shows her returning home to her dad’s house. She was in an inpatient program, but was not making any progress. Eli was experiencing a DSM-V psychological disorder called Anorexia Nervosa. Anorexia Nervosa is when people eat so little they have a huge weight loss that is unhealthy and they become very thin. Many who suffer from Anorexia Nervosa think they are overweight, or fat even when they are very underweight and thin. It can increase the chances of early death, but with treatment, it can be helped. Eli shows many symptoms and evidence that enables me to correctly diagnose her as someone who battles Anorexia Nervosa. Even though there are a lot of symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa, Eli does not show every single one of them, she can only be seen showing about fifteen of them.

By just looking at Eli’s physical body, it is easy to see the many different symptoms that she portrays. She has soft, fuzzy hair that covers her whole body. The reason for her hair growing soft and long like it is in the movie is because of the fact her body is trying to keep itself warm. Since she has no body fat keeping her body warm, it takes matters in to its own hands and starts growing soft, fuzzy hair all over her. Another symptom of Anorexia Nervosa is the skin having a yellowish color to it. Throughout the whole movie, her skin is a sort of yellow color that does not change until her dream when she is better. People who have Anorexia Nervosa tend to always stay covered up with a bundle of clothing. Unless she is being weighed in the bathroom, Eli can always be seen with long baggy clothes on that keep her covered up. Whenever she has her clothes off, her body is very thin. Her bones are very visible, which is a sign of someone who suffers from Anorexia Nervosa. By not eating, it can take a huge toll on the body, which can be clearly seen in this movie.

Throughout the movie, Eli can be seen showing signs of having Anorexia Nervosa when she skips meals, makes excuses to why she is not eating, eats only foods that are low in calories, and when she chews up food, but spits it out instead of swallowing it. In the beginning of the movie when Eli returns home to her dads after another inpatient stay, her sister asks her why she does not eat. The sister tells Eli that she is always making excuses to why she does not eat, which is a sign of someone who suffers with Anorexia Nervosa. At this same time, Ellen has two vegetables and meat on her plate, but she only eats the vegetables because of them having less calories than the meat. While Eli is staying at the new inpatient house, she starts to eat more, again. After her family session and Megan’s loss of her baby, Eli can be seen skipping meals and not wanting to eat. Whenever Luke takes Eli to eat with him, she does not actually eat the food she orders, she chews it up and spits it out, instead of swallowing it.

Another symptom of Anorexia Nervosa is mood changes. Throughout the movie, Eli always has a flat mood. She rarely shows emotion to anyone throughout the whole movie. It is not until the end when she starts to perk up a bit because she knows she wants to get better. She also shows the symptom of being very irritable. For example, when Luke tries to get her to eat the goo goo chocolate ball that she loves, she gets irritated with him very quickly because of him pushing her a little too hard to eat it. She is seen to have a very unhappy mood the whole movie except for a few moments here and there. People who battle Anorexia Nervosa tend to lack emotions.

Many symptoms can arise from battling Anorexia Nervosa. Eli has a few different symptoms because of her Anorexia Nervosa. After she leaves her new inpatient care house, she can be seen getting up out of a chair and she faints. She had gotten so unhealthy at that point she was weak so in result she fainted and fell to the floor. Another result of having Anorexia Nervosa is a women’s reproductive system starts to not work properly. While Eli is being checked by Doctor Beckham, he asked her when she had her last period, and she cannot even remember. In women, an absence of menstruation is a symptom of battling Anorexia Nervosa. People who suffer from Anorexia Nervosa are very thin and have no fat on their body. Since they have no fat to keep them warm, they suffer from being cold. When Eli got really bad right before she was going to have to get a tube, she was always cold. She can be seen shaking and wearing long clothes around this time. When someone has Anorexia Nervosa, they can produce symptoms as a result of having it. Anorexia has a huge effect on the body.

People who battle Anorexia Nervosa care a lot about the size of their body. Eli can be seen exercising a lot in this film. She is constantly doing sit-ups throughout the movie. She even agrees to go eat with Luke at a restaurant if she can walk very fast all the way there. People who suffer from Anorexia Nervosa are constantly exercising because they think it will help them stay small. During the movie, Eli constantly wraps her hands around her arm seeing if she can grip the whole arm with her hand. She does this because she wants to make sure her arms are not getting fatter.

When someone has a psychological disorder, they need to be correctly diagnosed so they can become healthy again. If they continue suffering from the psychological disorder without a diagnosis, it could be detrimental to their health in the long run. It can even lead to an early death. During the movie, Eli gets told a few times by people that they are afraid that if she keeps on doing what she does, that she will die. When the body does not get the nutrients it needs, it will start to shut down. Eli becomes very close to death at the end of the movie, but after having a dream she finally realizes that it is time to get better. Even though Eli needed to be officially diagnosed by a doctor, it is easy to see the symptoms that she portrays from having Anorexia Nervosa.

Overall, Eli portrays a lot of symptoms and signs that would allow people to diagnose her with having Anorexia Nervosa. These include, moodiness, soft body hair, yellowish skin, always wearing a lot of clothes, very thin, spits out food, skips meals, exercises excessively, measuring the size of her arm, fainting, cannot tolerate cold, and absence of period. Anorexia Nervosa is a very serious psychological disorder. Eli does not take it seriously at the beginning of the movie, but she soon comes to realize that she does not need to get better just for herself, but for her family and friends, also. In the end, she finally realizes that she needs to be in the program and goes back to continue on the path of getting well.

Introduction

A good childhood experience reflects greatly upon how you act as you get older, school life for a child should be memorable and should be able to apply the teachings to their own lives, but unfortunately, that's not what Saul Indian Horse can relate to. Richard Wagamese’s novel Indian Horse illustrates the trauma and abuse that Saul Indian Horse endures at St Jeromes, an Indian Residential school where the nuns and priests are bound to enculturate the Canadian Culture into them. Children are taken away from there families and are forced to live at these residential schools and obligated to follow their ways. Saul is negatively impacted by the residential through his identity from being separated from his family, stripping him of his culture that made him feel unworthy and by the endurance of the trauma and abuse he suffers.

Indian Horse: trauma of Saul

Saul was taken away from his family by the white men also known as the Zhanagush to St.Jermomes. Naiomi and Saul were both on there way to Minaki to meet her nephew Minoose, on the way there they encountered many obstacles such as there canoe breaking down in the river and not having much clothing to keep them warm, once they got to Minaki Naiomi passed away with Saul in her arms and the Zhanagush spots him and takes him away in there car with a blanket over him. Saul states “Somebody lifted me up I felt the old woman's arms fall away, I reached out to her shouting in a mixture of Ojibway and English. She stayed slumped in the corner, her hair coated with snow, her hands cupped as though she was still holding on to me. I wanted to pull her to her feet so we could keep walking. But instead, I was borne away”. Saul felt heartbroken and scared, he did not want to be taken away from his grandmother and wanted to continue walking with her. He does not want to leave her dead body there, Saul and his grandmother Naomi are very close with each other, Saul loves her very much, she did everything she could to keep him safe. His grandmother is part of his identity and the white man has taken that part of his identity away, his grandmother is the one person he knows that will always take care of him and be there for him. Being taken away from his grandma was very heartbreaking for Saul, but not more than the stripping of his culture.

At St.Jerome's many children are beaten are being stripped of their culture and rituals that shatters there human spirit. Children who come to residential schools are children who have their own culture and rituals which is part of their identity, just like Saul but that gets taken away by the schools. Saul says “When your innocence is stripped from you when your people are denigrated when the family you came from is denounced and your tribal ways and rituals are pronounced backward, primitive, savage, you come to see yourself as less than human. That is hell on earth, that sense of unworthiness.” It is evident that the children at St.Jeromes and Saul are stripped from everything, their language, clothing, rituals, and traditions. This made them feel unworthy and useless. Saul describes the schools as “hell on earth” meaning they never treated that place as a school but as everyday torture. This also shows that's the threats and beatings belittled the children including Saul and planting that fear in them, it deprives Saul of his identity throughout his life as well as his innocence. Being stripped of a culture and being taught a new one is a lot for a child to endure, but Saul has gone through much more such as being abused by a priest from his school.

Priest and nuns at the school would sexually abuse children at St Jerome's, and unfortunately, Saul is a victim of this and causes him trauma. Father Leboutullier was a priest at St.Jeromes he was a hockey coach and let children play hockey, as well as Saul, even though he was still young. He sexually abused Saul and made him keep quiet about it by letting him play hockey with the other player. Saul states “I loved the idea so much that I kept quiet. I loved the idea of being loved so much that I did what he asked. When I found myself liking it, I felt dirty and repulsive sick”. Father Leboutillier used Saul to stay quiet about the rape, Saul felt loved and he hasn’t felt that love since his grandma died, but at the same time, he feels dirty and repulsive because of the rape. Saul always trusted Father Leboutiller because he always said he was his ally and not as harsh as the other priests and nuns, but it turns out he is no different than the others, other than being a little friendly. This affects Saul’s identity because he always has that rage and that guilt of listening to him and doing what he asked, the guilt and rage stay with him almost his whole life. Even with him being taken away from his grandma and getting his culture taken away he still went through this abuse and is by far the worst.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Saul Indian Horse went through a lot throughout his life, Saul is impacted by the residential through his sense of identity throughout his life. Saul is having a negative impact by the residential schools through his sense of identity from the separation of his family, stripping him of his own culture that makes him feel unimportant and unworthy and lastly by the insurance of the trauma and abuse. Saul was a very kind and nice person, he loved his family very much, the different tragic events that happened to him in his life were something that he did not deserve. He deserves a better life, and the impact that residential schools had on him will stay with him forever.

Dystopian novels within literature hold an interesting genre that lets reader’s minds enter another reality that isn’t what one would call ordinary. With a literature like this existing, it allows readers to expand their minds with new knowledge and actually make people question if dystopian is really in the future. The novel Legend by Marie Lu is a thrill filled novel about pain, family, and fighting the republic. Stranger Things is a TV series directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, and it is mainly about a group of young children who witness supernatural forces and while being confused, the secret government exploits them. The TV series focuses on the investigation on a young boy, Will Byrers’s disappearances while supernatural events are occurring around the town. What is the main attraction of the show is the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities who helps the group of friends find their friend.

Stranger Things share various goals with the novel Legend, regarding fighting the republic or should we say the system. In the book Legend, Day’s goal was to go against the system because how unfair they are to his kind. Within the novel, Day is a criminal on the run for burglary from the Republic and while doing so; he makes the government look foolish. Later in the novel, June realizes that Day never killed her brother after all and that it was Thomas the entire time. Feeling foolish for ever believing the Republic, she decides to go against them and try to figure out what else they might know.

“The Republic would like everyone to believe that dissenters are rare, but that's not true. In poor areas like the Lake sector, a lot of people disagree with what the government has been doing”.

Eleven, the young girl with powers, undergoes numerous of experiments, performed by the government, to try to figure out why she is the way she is. After escaping from Hawkins Laboratory, she befriends Mike, Dustin, and Lucas and they become curious about her. Why she had no hair, or why she did not speak. When the boys are in the basement, trying to get answers from the girl about their missing friend, she begins by saying that she is running from “bad men”. Curious, they all set out to figure out what she means and while doing that, the “bad men” are out to find the missing girl. The show turns into one big search party while also digging to find the system’s secrets. Soon enough the police chief gets involved, because the boy’s friends become more worried than ever. They begin to think that their friend Will disappeared maybe to protect them or worse, into Eleven’s world. Attempting to seek answers from the hidden labs, the scientists turn away or threaten to kill anyone who comes near the laboratory. All the experiments led Eleven to rebel from the laboratory thus leading her to the boys.

Being rebellious also follows into the novel Legend. Within the novel, Metias encourages June to “...rebel from inside the system. That’s much more powerful than rebelling outside the system'. Chief Hopper in Stranger Things states, 'I know you do experiments on kidnapped little kids, whose parents' brains you've turned to mush. And I know you went a little too far this time and you messed up in a big way.'

June promises to get vengeance against the republic including Thomas for making her believe that her brother’s death was performed by someone else. Much like June and Day, Eleven and one of the boys in the group, Mike Wheeler, begin to grow feelings for each other despite her having powers. Their little crush is nowhere near as important to their friend Will missing, so as they crush they must search as well. June and Day just happen to fall in love with one another despite June assuming that Day killed her brother. Day, as mentioned earlier, happens to be a criminal which isn’t June’s type since she was once so devoted to the Republic. Despite the downfalls, these two relationships are an element that pushes these characters to fight for their beliefs, or that slight push against both systems.

Sacrificing your life, such as June and Eleven, to save the lives of others is something many people could ever do. Whether their future is bright or not, these girls put their own lives on the line for the ones that matter most to them and it is truly impactful. In the novel Legend, Day’s brother John is someone who actually gives his life in order for June and Day to even make it out alive. As John is aware that he will be killed, he loves his brother and just knows Day will become something great with time. In John’s last few moments, he states: “You need more time,’ John says. ‘They want an execution? They’ll get one.’ He starts running away from us. Back down the hall. Back toward the firing squad yard”. In Stranger Things, Eleven makes sacrifices many times for her friends so the scientist won’t ever dare perform experiments on them like they did to her. She refused to put her new pals in danger, and just knew that finding Will was going to be possible with her. After all, only she knew what the upside down was like. According to the little amount she spoke, it was not safe.

Legend is a great dystopian that offers it’s readers an action-filled, edge of the seat, novel with amazing characters and plot. Stranger Things also excellently executes the idea of a dystopian society as well. Both of these texts portray courageous characters that strive to rebel against their government for what has been done to their own people. They choose to stand up for so many people, which I believe is truly impactful. These brave and better yet, female characters, fight through their obstacles with allies for justice and the truth within their fowl systems.
