Purpose Statement and Model
1) In the introductory paragraph, state why the dependent variable has been chosen for analysis.
The dependent variable was chosen because few researchers have attempted to establish the relationship between salary and performance of players of different games in different leagues, and thus, researching on this topic could contribute to better practices in sports
Then make a general statement about the model:
“The dependent variable _salary_ is determined by variables __ On Base percentage (OPS)__, _experience (EXP)_, _stolen base (SB)_, and ________.”
2) In the second paragraph, identify the primary independent variable and defend why it is important.

In this paragraph, cite and discuss the two research sources that support the thesis, i.e., the model.
The OPS adds these two measures of productivity together, on base percentage and slugging percentage, and is often viewed as the best measure of productivity (Stankiewicz, 2009). Meltzer (2005) conducted a study looking at the average yearly salaries for position players only. One of the models predicting the average yearly salary using regression models on two performance statistics; on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) and plate appearances. The study found that performance metrics with the two variables used OPS and plate appearances were a significant predictor of player salary (Meltzer, 2005). OPS is expected to be the primary independent variable having strong positive correlation and prediction power to the player’s annual pay.
